So...what was his reasoning, anyway? Empty So...what was his reasoning, anyway?

So, I'm pretty much obsessed with Brooks and love him to death (no hate here whatsoever) but I never really understood why exactly he left...in the first place. It seemed like he was doing perfectly fine except for a bit of ambivalence week to week, but what do you guys think was the overall reason he left? I was a little lost trying to decipher his goodbye. 👅

Not that I'm complaining that he's single or anything, of course. :cutesmile!:

He had fun dating Des, but once the specter of an engagement was hanging over him he faced the truth: I'm just not that into her.
Haven't we all dated someone who we knew we wouldn't marry? We just got longer to come to that conclusion.

How long are they on the show again? A couple of months?

Why do you think he didn't wait to tell her privately on the FD?

I think Brooks knew Des really wanted an engagement in the end and he didn't feel he could give it to her. I don't think his feelings for her were in the same place that hers were but I do think that he cared a lot about her. I don't think he would have taken Des on the HTD if he didn't think there was potential in their relationship.

The time between the HTD and Antigua gave him time to think and he knew he wouldn't be at a place where he was ready to propose. Des wanted "a ring on it" and Brooks knew that.

I don't think Brooks knew how much in love Des was with him and probably thought her feelings were conflicted with Chris and Drew too. If he had known how strong Des' reaction was going to be I think he would have talked to her in private but I'm sure there was a lot of pressure from TPTB to do it on film. Maybe they didn't give him a choice. If Brooks had made up his mind I can see how he wouldn't want to go on the FD, if he did she may have felt misled into thinking he might be staying.

When I think back to that break up it still makes me feel so sad. They both were so real and honest and obviously emotional. No other way to describe it than raw emotions.

Wouldn't it be great to talk with Des and Brooks (and others too) to find out what really happened through the entire show. There is so much more to this story than we saw.

My two cents for what it is worth, alright, maybe three! Brooks saw that Des was much more into Chris than him. After all, he watched Chris get all the hot dates, he watched Chris get the rose, after the dodgeball game (even though he broke a finger and came back to the show), he watched Des bring Chris back to her room, and no doubt Brooks saw the poem Des wrote to Chris. He also saw the sketches Des drew for Chris, and so he know she was to step aside and let his buddy get the girl. Especially, since he was not that into her. Fair game, he didn't want her and someone else did!
So in the end, it was a win-win situation for Chris and Des, and Brooks.

As for Drew, he was just a filler until it was time for elimination. My only question is why did Des bother to give him a rose only to release him the next day? Why didn't she just send him home, and then let Chris comfort her? After all, she went right to Chris after the rose ceremony, and Chris made her go hug Drew. Even Drew saw that!

Ok, I am off my soap box now. Happy for the happy couple, and I will gracefully exit. Thanks for hearing me out.

Because the ugly producers wanted it on film... that's why.

That doesn't cover why she was professed her love for Brooks.

She kept Drew because the producers wanted that sweet smile of relief on Chris' face when she told him Drew was gone at the proposal.

The producers couldn't have made him break up on camera if he had kept his mouth shut about what he was going to do. But, hindsight is 20/20. Obviously, it would have been better for Des if she didn't have a permanent reminder of it on youtube.
