They are a very good looking couple! She is one of the few blogs I read. As far as taking Andy's surname after they get married, many parts in Europe do not use that custom. Spain and Mexico and other countries, use the tradition of having two surnames, the father and the mothers surname.

I don't think it's a big deal at all. Looking forward to a September wedding!

That was very interesting. I had no idea that in Quebec a woman isn't allowed by law to take her husband's last name.

Me either, Sprite. I don't know what I think about it. Do the kids take their dad's name or do they get hyphenated names also? I'm guessing not because it would get complicated when they marry. I did take my husband's last name but have friends who didn't. I liked having the choice.

The topic comes up in Quebec every once in a while. They should have a choice, everyone should have a choice. IMO. I remember when our handsome Prime Minister's wife hyphenated her name Gregoire - Trudeau which also isn't acceptable in Quebec, caused a stir.

Typically the children take the father's surname from what I've seen. I have come across those who take both father and mother's surname in Canada, but it's very common in other parts of the world to take both father and mother's surname. I know in Italy they don't change their names, and it has been like that for years. My grandmothers did not change their names.

We run into this all the time with New to Canada residents especially from Spain Mexico Brazil. When they have their paperwork done, some clerk takes it upon themselves to drop one of the names or puts a hyphen where in actual fact they don't use hyphens, this causes a lot of confusion in my world.
