How could one man endure so much heartache? Ask controversial fan favorite Nick Viall, who has had his heart broken by Bachelorettes Andi Dorfman and Kaitlyn Bristowe, and failed to find his soul mate on “Bachelor in Paradise.” Now Nick is the one giving out the roses and ready for his happily ever after – but will he find the love of his life? Nick begins his pursuit of his soul mate, as 30 beautiful, accomplished women join him on the highly anticipated 21st season premiere of “The Bachelor,” MONDAY, JANUARY 2 (8:00-10:01 p.m. EST), on the ABC Television Network.
In “Episode 2101,” a trio of popular former Bachelors – Sean Lowe, Chris Soules and Ben Higgins –offer their support and encouragement to Nick, who will face all-new pressures and responsibilities. Their words of wisdom calm him as limos start to arrive with women all eager to make a lasting first impression. One confident woman is way ahead of the field – she steps out of the limo with none other than famed jeweler Neil Lane and points out the engagement ring she prefers. Another woman reveals her linguistic skills and still another exposes a quirky obsession. A number of the ladies decide to wear red to stand out – but now, it backfires, as those in other colors are more prominent. Nick is blindsided by the arrival of a mysterious woman from his past. The secret they share threatens to derail his search for love. What are her intentions?
Once inside the mansion, the party really gets started, as the women compete to spark a special connection with the handsome Bachelor. A battle breaks out over which of the bachelorettes will land the first kiss. Although Nick tries his best to give all the women the attention they deserve, the women who haven’t had any time with him begin to panic. In the end, Nick’s instant chemistry with one stunning bachelorette helps her capture the coveted first impression rose. The stakes are high and as the evening winds down, it’s time for the first rose ceremony. Twenty-two lucky women will continue on the journey to win Nick’s heart.
A list of the bachelorettes will be released shortly.
Romantic and adventurous dates will reach new heights this season, testing the ladies’ perseverance in pursuing their romantic objective, along with fun, exciting and exotic dates that will elicit real and raw passions.
Nick’s first group date looks into his possible future as 12 fortunate women get to try different bridal themes for a wedding photo shoot. Who will click first with the potential groom? Another group date at Hollywood’s Museum of Broken Relationships affords the opportunity for six bachelorettes to each perform a humorous “breakup” with Nick in front of a live audience. Eleven women get the shock of their lives when they discover they will perform on the same stage as the world famous The Backstreet Boys and get a chance to show off their dance skills for Nick and a live concert audience. Olympians Michelle Carter, Allyson Felix and Carl Lewis offer their expertise to bachelorettes participating in a track and field face-off, with the winner receiving special alone time with Nick.
Waukesha, Wisconsin – Nick’s hometown -- rolls out the red carpet to the remaining women. One special lady is treated to a concert by new country star Chris Lane. New Orleans plays host to the romantic group as Nick and the women tour the French Quarter and submerge themselves in the Big Easy’s culture – including a group of voodoo dancers – and a VIP serenade by the soulful Lolo. Tropical dreams await in St. Thomas in the Virgin Islands and in Bimini in the Bahamas, where women have the opportunity to swim with the sharks and one lucky woman is treated to a romantic beach concert by pop singer Adam Friedman.
The hometown dates are filled with emotional revelations, but in a 180-degree turn, the final three bachelorettes travel to Lapland, Finland, for the unpredictable overnight dates where the relationships have a chance to flourish and more surprises await the unsuspecting Bachelor. Will Nick open his heart and find the woman of his dreams who will love him back?
As in the past, women will continue to be eliminated on a regular basis, but if at any point a woman should decide that she’s no longer interested in the Bachelor, she can reject his invitation to continue dating. Some lucky women will meet his family, and he will visit their hometowns for a slice of their lives in an effort to determine the woman with whom he is most compatible.
Hosted by Chris Harrison, “The Bachelor” is a production of Next Entertainment in association with Warner Horizon Television. Mike Fleiss, Elan Gale, Bennett Graebner and Nicole Woods are the executive producers. “The Bachelor” is broadcast in 720 Progressive (720P), ABC's selected HDTV format, with 5.1 stereo surround sound. A parental guideline will be assigned closer to the airdate.

The Bachelor’: Chris Harrison on The 5 Women to Watch this Season
Raven Gates, 25
“Raven is also a professional woman but from a small town. She is from Arkansas and went to the University of Arkansas. She is very straight-shooting, no-nonsense southern belle. She has a very sweet quality to her and she is friendly to everyone, but she is sharp as a tack and will not be walked all over. I dare you to underestimate her. Some of the girls will learn that lesson. She is around fashion and clothes as a boutique owner. She is always put together and dreams of the big country wedding. She does fit that stereotype. She is very kind, loving, and sweet and Nick finds that very attractive. He very much enjoys being comforted by her. She is that girl that makes him forget and relax and takes him away from all the nonsense in the house and that girl is always someone you have to watch out for on The Bachelor."

Rachel Lindsay, 31
"Rachel is an attorney from Dallas, which of course I love. I love my Dallas people. She is incredibly smart, very strong-willed, professional woman. She knows how to command a courtroom and therefore a room in general so she can kind of impose her will on everybody. That is not a recipe for having an easy go in the house with the women but it does help when trying to make sure you get noticed by the bachelor and get your time with him. But can she let down her guard and be soft enough for Nick too? Because as much as he likes strong women, he's a sensitive guy too. She is one of many fans and women in general can get behind and root for."

Elizabeth Sandos, 29
“She's a doula who has a very big secret that she is keeping. She met Nick nine months ago at a wedding and they kissed. She came in and kept the secret for awhile and Nick kept the secret for awhile. But obviously in the Bachelor house, secrets do not stay hidden. So eventually it's going to come out that she already knew him. She applied after finding out Nick was going to be the bachelor. She told us the story about how they hooked up at this wedding and they hit it off. She thinks they have unfinished business and wants to see where it could go. She wanted to give it a shot and see where it could go. We figured Nick could always let her go if he was not into it. That is just our kind of story, our kind of twist, a total lay-up. She convinced us that there's a history there that she is not ready to give up on yet. She is a very sweet girl and pretty. We confirmed that this had happened and we did not tell Nick about it. We wanted that to be a surprise to him on night one. If we told him and prepared him that's someone he knew was applying and picked, he would put his guard up. Not telling him made him deal with a real-life moment and see what happens when they meet again."
Corinne Olympios, 24
"Corinne, a very attractive business owner, is very interesting, well-off, and successful. She runs her parent's multi-million dollar company. She definitely approaches The Bachelor process with a business boardroom attitude. [She has] that didn't come here to make friends, take no prisoners attitude. She is there to close the deal, and that can be off-putting to the women she has to live with. There are two things I am interested to see with Corinne: One is, there's this odd side to her that is very endearing, almost in a Michelle Money way. Like remember how Michelle would rub people the wrong way but you couldn't help but love her at the same time? This is the same sort of thing. I will be interested to see where the fans fall on her. I think they will either think she's the devil or they will love her a lot. I love her badass, take-charge attitude. And Nick does respond to it pretty well."

Alexis Waters, 23
"Alexis is an aspiring dolphin trainer and she takes that to heart on night one. She makes a splash on night one, pun definitely intended. She has probably the most memorable entrance this season; she tries to make a big first impression and we will see if Nick is into it. As I said, Nick really gave the women a wide berth and let them go for it on night one. Alexis should be thankful for that. I will say this for Alexis too: She committed to character 100 percent and I respect that."

‘The Bachelor’: Chris Harrison on The 5 Women to Watch this Season
Carrie BellYahoo TV RealityDecember 7, 2016
As not even the third time was a charm, Nick Viall, veteran suitor on two seasons of The Bachelorette and an installment of Bachelor In Paradise, hopes his fourth go at finding love on air might prove more fortuitous.
"I feel bad for the guy. He sincerely wants to find someone to spend life with, but he's been incredibly unlucky in love and has had his heart broken on national TV so many times," host Chris Harrison tells Yahoo TV. "People said he was an unconventional choice [for Bachelor], but I would argue that in a lot of ways he is actually a conventional pick for the show. We typically look for someone who has been on the show, who we know very well, who is interesting to fans, and who has been unlucky in love but still sincerely looking for it."
According to Harrison, the production team did everything in their power to ensure season 21 of The Bachelor ended happily, starting with assembling 30 amazing women to vie for Viall's affection. "I can't say enough about how great and diverse a group of women we put together for him. They are very strong, smart, and independent, business owners and lawyers and military."
By Harrison's account, the Los Angeles-based software salesman was grateful for their handiwork. "A lot of the bachelors and bachelorettes have a type. We have to break them down and get rid of that type in their head because that obviously hasn't been working for 30 years. They need to change course," he says. "The good thing with Nick was that he was pretty open-minded. He didn't say, 'I want blondes or brunettes only. ' But one thing he did say was that he is attracted to confidence. He likes a strong-willed, independent woman who knows who knows what she wants in life and love."
Of course, just because Nick appreciates those personality traits, doesn't mean there won't be fireworks between the contenders. Harrison teases, "This is not the recipe for a simple easy house. When you have a bunch of strong, opinionated women who are used to getting their way and being successful and suddenly asking them to get in line and wait for their turn, it does not go over very well. Typically things start off nice and congenial, but then they decide they want their time and stop being polite."
Per usual, before heading off to locales near and far, the season will kick off at the Southern California mansion with a night of limo arrivals — some awkward, some promising. "He was really impressed night one, which made it very difficult for him to give that first impression rose," Harrison reports. "Another good thing about Nick having done the show so many times is that he understood the nervousness and pressure that the women were feeling so he gave them a wide berth when it came to introducing themselves. He had a much higher tolerance for the arrivals, even for people who really went for it."
Fewer women employed wacky, bold introduction strategies, but there are several that Harrison promises will be memorable including a woman who "took the horseback entrance to a new level. She saw a horse and raised it a couple a humps."
Another potential wife, who shows up in a costume, appears on the annual list of five women to watch Harrison prepares exclusively for Yahoo. Click through to see which members of the super-sized "diverse and eclectic group" of the "roller coaster season" made the cut this year.
