Re: Art
Great category!
As someone who cannot draw, paint, sculpt, etc, but has a creative mind (or so I think), I am continually in awe and envious of an artist's raw talent and ability to express all the complexities that move them to create each piece. The intense emotion they are able to evoke in us is truly a remarkable thing. It all just wows me!
I've only been to one famous museum—The Met and I still kick myself that we didn't make time for MoMA. Although at the time, the Met ran an exhibit of some of MoMA's most famous works so this is how we justified that. My ex liked Dali's The Persistence of Memory, but it didn't move me.
I was mesmerized by Picasso's Head of a Woman and I could not take my eyes off it. He's always been my favorite famous artist but seeing an original just hit it home.

With his many different styles, techniques and mediums, I'd never be able to choose a favorite. A couple I love are Dance of the Veils done in 1907. (The image of the original is too large to SC so click link for a closer look).

and Girl with a Mandolin (Fanny Tellier) created in 1910.

A lithograph I own and love, gives the tiniest hint of how I feel about these two. Sorry the photo is dark( I was trying not to get reflection in the glass) and photos do not usually do justice to the art.

Re: Art
There are moments in my life that I remember literally standing in a museum and feeling a flood of emotion from a piece of art... here is one that gave me chills (way more powerful in person as it's life size and you can walk all around it)....Rodin's, The Kiss from the Rodin Musuem in Paris... fitting for a forum largely dedicated to love (or lust)!

Re: Art
It's overwhelming to think of the amount of skill, precision and time involved in a mural, fresco, sculpture.
My doctor asked me: "Does anyone in your family suffer from mental illness?" My answer:"No they all enjoy it immensely."

Re: Art
^^ Absolutely...can you imagine thousands of hours of work only to hit a fissure in the stone and break off or crack a key part of your sculpture... I can barely hit a nail straight myself!

Re: Art
I have my St Peter's Square and so many more pictures I took when I went to Italy. The interior pictures are a fraction of the size of St Peter's Basilica.
These are all my own pictures I took.

Re: Art
Just awesome. I hate the overuse of that word, but what else describes some of these things?
And pictures never do it justice, IMO.

Re: Art
I am amazed at how they were able to build those stunning buildings in those days. Every single thing you look at, is stunning.
If you stand at the end of those columns you can see they are perfectly lined up. Those statues on top of the building, are everywhere.
I miss it, I so want to go back.
Couple more. My own pictures taken by myself.
Market day.

Pretty doors in my Mother's hometown. I was obsessed with the doors and door knockers. I should have taken more pictures.

The mathematical precision involved is unbelievable.

I didn't get a chance to go to the Rodin Museum in Paris...so much to do, just not enough time...but, I did go to see the Rodin exhibit when it came to Toronto. It was one of my favourites.

I grew up in the 70's and remember a lot of the big eyed girls: link They were done by several different artists.
