Arie Luyendyk Jr - Lauren Burnham - Bachelor 22 - Discussion #2

Since there was much discussion in the previous thread about rules regarding sponsored/comped posts, I’ve been paying more attention to whether or not #ad is always attached to BN people’s posts. For example/comparison purposes only, I noticed that Becca Tilley, like Arie & Lauren, just tagged/“@“ the hotel and did not put #ad or something similar in her latest post. Since she does this sort of thing regularly, I would imagine she would be familiar with the necessary requirements. Perhaps A/L and Becca got similar deals for their hotel stays.

Arie Luyendyk Jr - Lauren Burnham - Bachelor 22 - Discussion

@Aunties_Love did your comped room come with the expressed agreement that you would post about it on social media, allow professional photos to be taken of you at the hotel? If not, you are not obligated to say anything as you haven’t ignored any FTC regulations.

IF Arie and Lauren received the free stay and/or payment to stay there in exchange for the press and there was an agreement in place about said stay then yes they must disclose those stay as an #ad or #sponsored on their social media when talking about or tagging the hotel. If they don’t do that then they are violating the regulations.

I don't see anywhere in that article that implies Arie is putting the article out.  Everything is according to a source or from the hotel's website.  The other celebs mentioned in the article, if they were also comped, are they in violation as well?

And if TPTB funded this, does that have to be disclosed?  Serious questions which I do not know the answers to, so I'm asking you, if you know.

The photos from the hotel are taken by a professional photographer for promotional purposes and thus the hotel released them to People for the publicity. I haven’t seen one person or couple from the show have these types of photos taken without it being a comped stay. This looks exactly the same. If Arie and Lauren. are being comped, they have to disclose at some point. They should do it on any post from the hotel though if I’m being honest.

The other celebrities mentioned are just said to be fans of the hotel chain and that doesn’t give me indictation if they were comped stays or not. I don’t feel like trolling through their social media accounts to find out if they were comped. Lol

Every time the show has given a couple a vacation they have mentioned it. And I doubt the show would fly them to Europe on a budget airline such as WOW. It’s like a small step up from Spirit.

All JMO
I still don't understand why it is up to Arie and Lauren to specify that it is being comped when they aren't the ones that put it forth. Meaning, it is the hotel's responsibility to say whether it is comped IMO therefore it won't be Arie nor Lauren that is responsible for that and therefore, they won't get in trouble with legalities. All IMO

I can't see them going on this elaborate vacation being comp'd and not acknowledging it. How do we even know it was comp'd? We here on this forum can't even post pics without a source, I'm sure posting #ad next to his Wow flight isn't going to kill him. He certainly would have been advised how to post the ad. I can't see why he just would take all the freebies and not post it crediting it as an #ad.

What do I know. I'm going to see Rod Stewart Thursday and according to him Some Guys Have All the Luck and right now Arie's a lucky guy IMHO. He got the one he really wanted, and is having the time of his life regardless of what I think! Topics tagged under ad on bachandbachettefans.net - Page 3 1710264613

Okay, thanks.  The pictures of the room look like website pictures, so I have no idea if those were taken for the article, or lifted from the website.  The picture outside the hotel looks anything but professional.  The one inside does look like they were posing for it.

So, does the hotel have to disclose the comp as well?  Who's obligation, the hotel or the person.  And wouldn't People Magazine know the disclosure obligations?

Sorry for all of the questions, the things I learn from our forum.

The photos of them are credited to a pro so those were definitely for publicity.

The person or people who are receding the VIK (value in kind), which in this case is a hotel stay, are the only ones obligated to disclose. The hotel nor People have any obligation to say Arie/Lauren received something from the hotel.

Thanks!

So if Arie and Lauren put out anything, they are obligated to disclose. Since they weren't interviewed for this article, there was no opportunity to disclose.  Do I have that right?

And of course, just so our discussion, which I'm thoroughly enjoying, doesn't take wings and become fact, this is all if in fact they were comp'ed.

I have received comp'ed rooms many times, I guess the difference is I'm not a celeb.  laugh out loud   I even had a penthouse comp.

Vast majority of the “influencers” and celebs on IG who receive free stays and even payment on top of the stay disclose on social media using the paid partnership, #ad or #sponsored.

I’ll put it this way: if they allowed a professional photographer to take their photos for publicity shots and didn’t receive anything in return they are extremely stupid IMO. This is just one of the reasons I believe they are being comped and thus need to disclose. I also believe their WOW flights were comped and they didn’t disclose those which would be a huge problem if true.
