@relaxing I wasn't necessarily responding to your post. I read your post and thought to myself, that a show wouldn't be nominated if the ratings weren't good. I had no idea there wasn't a previous category for reality TV Shows. I didn't go searching for the season ratings, or look for anything to back up my statement. It was an opinion. I watch awards shows and pay no attention to how they get nominated. Going by Oscars and Golden Globe, I always thought movies were nominated because they are good movies. I would have thought the same for MTV.

ABC | The Bachelor drew 8.4 million total viewers and a 2.7 demo rating, rising 18 and 23 percent week-to-week (to season highs), but down 12 and 7 percent year-over-year to mark lows for a finale. After the Final Rose retained 7.8 mil/2.4.

This tells me the ratings rose 18-23 percent week to week, but it was down for the season finale. So to me, that doesn't necessarily mean the whole season's ratings were down. Plus we had a thread during his season indicating the ratings, and there were a lot of positive weeks, "stomping the competition". There was also an article that said

“The Bachelor” chose a fiancee, but while the finale hit a season high, it still barely edged out “The Voice” in the two hours the reality series went head-to-head. The final two hours of Nick Viall’s season brought in a 2.7 rating in the 18-49 demographic and an average audience of 8.4 million. “The Bachelor: After the Final Rose” notched a 2.4 in the demo and brought 7.85 million pairs of eyeballs to ABC

There was actually so much conflicting information, to me it doesn't matter how his season or anyone else's season ends. I'll watch. I thought that if the season was a dud, it wouldn't be nominated for an award, simple as that.

For me, the fact that MTV tagged Nick in their tweet offering him a rose, and didn't tag ABC Bachelor or anyone else, IMO has something to do with Nick, or at least they are recognizing him. There are a few other shows that IMO should have been nominated like The Biggest Looser Survivor TAR or even DWTS, but none of them were, TB was, to me it's a big deal for TPTB.

I haven't seen the MTV movie awards in ages. Are they still generally regarded as a joke? I take them as seriously as Chris Harrison's 'most dramatic' shtick.

^IMO yes. They've always been a joke and will continue to be so. Lol

I don't think the nomination is solely due to Nick nor is it solely due to The Bachelor. I think both play a role in earning the nomination, just as good actors contribute to the success of an entire film production. Obviously, TB is no Moonlight or Game of Thrones, but I think the same logic could apply. JMO.

ETA: The MTV Movie Awards are a joke the same way The Bachelor is a joke. Both are pretty low-brow, and I say that as someone who has watched both, albeit not consistently every year. My point is, if TB is going to be nominated, this is the perfect awards show to "earn" that recognition.

MTV was totally cool in 1981.  

Joke or not some of the actors from the blockbuster movies always go to collect their awards. I think its a fun award show compared to the oscars. It's cheeky but it's supposed to be that way.

I guess I just don't get it. If it's a joke, and you're a B&B fan and it wins best movie, it's a joke?

It's not a joke to me. Recognition by a TV network is nothing to sneeze at, IMO. That CH and Elan even tweeted it shows they are quite chuffed about the nomination too! I think it's pretty awesome for this show and for Nick.

It is! It's something no one saw coming. It's reality TV. Win the award, lose the award or tie, Nick was recognized. Simple as that. IMO I'm pretty sure I saw them tweet him. 2016 was my year too for reality TV. What fun it has been. The gift that keeps on giving.

Don't let them kid you @GA, there isn't a single show nominated that doesn't want to hear their name called when the winner is announced on May 5. They want to laugh at the joke all the way to the winners podium, I'm sure of it.
