A sky lantern is a very large paper lantern that you write your wishes for the next year and release into the sky. When you purchase one, the vendor asks you which color you want. it's a guy and I don't think those are casts. They look like protective gear, similar to shinguards for soccer. I don't feel like looking up the specific sport but I think it's a popular kick boxing type thing they're doing on a group date and one of the men is injured. IIRC, Reality Steve mentions this in his season spoilers.
