thank you umngirl...

Diamond + Hearts

as far as Chris and Des selling their time and attention in consideration for the sale of books... I believe it's in poor taste.  I did see where other's like Jef, Ed have sold themselves, but the money that was raised was for a charity, not for their own profit.

My opinion... they need to hire a good marketing person... oh wait, I just know of one that might be able to help  giggling

Jef had a scam business, not a charity. People ran through the numbers and it was not pretty. Something like 6 cents on a $36 24 pack of purified water.
I don't like the book packages, but let's not put Chris along side the snake oil salesman please.

Thanks umngirl! Chris and Des selling their time and attention for book sales is lame but it's nothing new. From my memory, every couple has done something that made me SMH. I expect to see things like this from the people who go on this show and it's A-OKAY with me. I don't think any less of Des and Chris and I hope they make a lot of money from this book (and future ones).

The way this show edits and manipulates people, I say in return, take advantage of the spotlight and use it to pursue all of your dreams. It's done wonders for basically, all of the bachelorettes.

as per the bolded, though i think its a mind-boggling, somehow i agree with this!!....as a firm believer that they gave Chres a wacky editing to hide the their real obvious love story from the start, id say..good for them!!...

As I wrote in another thread, I don't think most people have a problem with them taking advantage of the opportunities that come their way, it just looks bad in the way they are going about it. It gives a poor impression and you would think they would be do everything they can to try to dispell that after the edit they got on the show. Even some fans are comparing them to Deanna and Jessie and I doubt that is what they want.

For those who have not followed the original discussion, it stems from this:

Sprite---ITA. I think it's great if they wanted to do the book and they should take advantage of the after the show timing. And with everything you sell you have to promote it, it's just the selling of themselves that I don't like (you buy this book you get a piece of me, the more books you buy the bigger the piece). Just left me shaking my head and didn't fit with selling the love poems book. I think they got bad advice on this one.

Other Bachelor folks have done this type of marketing.  Arie set up a similar tiered platform this year to raise funds for racing, including so many dollars for a Skype call, tickets to a race to meet him, etc.  The appearances Sean and Catherine made (Toronto and other places) where people paid to meet them at a club is comparable.  They received appearance fees, free travel, food and drink just because people wanted to see them. Isn't that selling themselves as a couple?

I see the Des and Chris book the same way. It's a straightforward approach to make money (unlike Jef's People Water campaign), and one can choose to buy or not to buy.

May I ask: if we already have a Chris discussion thread, why do we need a Chris & Desiree General Discussion thread? I am not opposed to the new thread, but just think we have enough threads, sometimes it's confusing where to post. Just IMO, of course.
Back to the topic: Chris & Des can publish as many books and make as much money to their heart's content, but it does leave a sour taste to me. I applauded that Des moved to Seattle and they seemed to have a happy and normal life, then, the book and the marketing. Not a fault, but I guess I had put them in a pedestal before, thinking they wanted to distance from the franchise and focused on their relationship. A little disappointing to me: I feel they are not different than other reality TV couples who want to pursue their 15 minutes of fame. Again, IMO only.
BTW, I am curious to know: how many Chris & Des fans from this board purchased this book?

I think people wanted a general discussion thread for the couple because it's about the two of them as opposed to just Chris. For the recent seasons we've always had a fan section and a general discussion thread for the final couple. It helps keeping them separate so the fans can gush and the non-fans can share their opinion without the fans getting mad.
