And there is absolutely nothing wrong with that.
There wouldn't be an outcry if that's ALL he'd have said. Fact is, that he has then gone on to call gay people perverts; their way of living immoral, them setting a bad example for families and kids.... THAT'S what stung.

I don't really care what JP said or how he said it. I think if he would have said something rude that was of a conservative nature, a shit storm would not have occurred.

No, nobody is dense. Let me rephrase that. If JP was rudely responding about a conservative issue, there would not be the kick and scream that there is when it's a homosexual issue. I couldn't care less either way. We have become a world that is too damn PC and we can't fit into our big girl pants. Everyone wants toleration and acceptance but the road runs both ways.

Moreover, I don't think it is a big deal, except for, of course, GLAAD was able to float some mileage off the matter, which is all that group is about. They used him and have, already, spit him out.

I don't agree with JP but I don't really have an issue with what he said except the part where he used the word "pervert". I think in using that word he misspoke, using a word he didn't intend to. He was stating his opinion which is fine by me...I just don't agree with him. His words will offend some people so much that they will not watch the show. Everybody has a right to respond the way they feel comfortable. What we say and do has consequences. I will continue to watch the show. What he said was stupid (JMO) but it doesn't define the whole person that JP is for me. I like enough about him to keep watching. I know others disagree with that.

BYW I really liked Des' answer to a similar question which is very much in line with my personal position on this subject.

Where were his handlers anyway? Isn't it their job to help monitor and control these interviews?

The topic was brought up on the Today Show. Emphasis on JP being at fault and reparations being made besides ABC's apology. (JP getting sensitivity training with GLAAD etc)

If you listen to the interview and replace the word Pervert (which kind of seems to come out of left field!) with the word "passionate" it makes a lot more sense.

If what he meant to say was "passionate" but used the word "pervert" I'd say he made a bit of error (yikes!!!).    I agree with you Sophie, what followed in his description of what would be seen on TV makes passionate a better word choice. I don't think he will be making that mistake again :hidingchair
