The air filtration system in planes has not been upgraded probably since the 50’s ...it was already ridiculous and now it’s downright dangerous IMO.
And you are squeezed in with people all around you...plus it’s pretty outrageous  but some passengers have taken flights AFTER BEING DIAGNOSED with Covid -19! And I’m sure others have not been caught. The other thing about planes is that they don’t take the required time to do a proper cleaning between each flights. So forget about disinfecting now-  They put these planes back in the air with passengers ASAP, to maximise profits.
I read yesterday a very thorough, precise and informative site on CANADA ‘s web site, I’ll link it if you’d like. I am proud and happy to be Canadian and miss being there now!
Here are a few excerpts:

The latest figures available Monday indicated 34,000 had been swabbed for traces of the pathogen across the country, compared to 23,000 tests in the U.S., which has 10 times the population and number of COVID-19 cases.

Among major countries, South Korea is still the screening leader, having done 248,000 tests by Monday, or about 4,800 per million residents. Hard-hit Italy has carried out about 2,300 swabs per million, and the U.K.  668 per million. Canada’s total amounts to 837 tests for every million people.
The clear laggard is the U.S., where the slow rollout of testing — largely controlled initially by the federal Centers for Disease Control — became a political issue.>>

I read a timeline that indicates that Canada had already put in place screenings and directives for ALL Canadian airport, beginning in JANUARY !!! Way to go Canada! The US is facing tragedies because of the lack of leadership and foresight.its infuriating.

No lack of leadership in united states from what I can see, our president closed our borders to china early and was called racist and xenophobic for doing so, but good thing he did or we would be in worse shape then Italy is right now. He has teams working around the clock and a vaccine is being tested as we speak at most record time in history, he conferenced with all our governors ,big businesses to help with testing centers and laid out steps and things that are to be done. and so much more. So IMO he's doing everything that he possibly can to keep us safe and get us through this, and we will. That's all I'll say in responding to the last sentence of your post because this is not a place we can or should discuss politics but it bothers me when people are misinformed by the Fake news. jmo

My son works for a major airline (American)and just came off a trip on Friday and he said the plains were scrubbed down and cleaner then they ever before. Disinfectant spray ,wipes, gloves and masks were worn by the whole 55 ppl on board and crew. Hardly anyone is traveling and Domestic travel might be grounded soon too.

Don’t be too sure that getting Covid-19 will make you immune to it. They just don’t know enough yet plus getting it can be so dangerous.

Forbes article

It’s crazy that we don’t have enough test kits here. I hear all the time that people don’t qualify even though it seems testing should be indicated. Clearly mistakes have been made but they need to rectify that ASAP.

Our small city in the north Dallas area has given a directive that there should be no gatherings over 10 people, even in homes. My ladies club has decided to not have any activities through the end of May. We’re tacking about having video chats or even a video happy hour. 😀🍷

@Jolena  I stand by every word I said and have tons of examples that demonstrate the information I posted is NOT fake news but coming from the best source, WHO and top government and agencies personnel.
These are statistics, not fake news. Most country has a Pandemic preparedness agency that is in charge of issues such as this. They have expert epidemiologist, doctors, emergency trained specialist etc. who know what to do and are guiding and implementing the WHO directives. Guess WHO fired and let go of the US pandemic team of experts? Yes, your top guy. And he didn’t find it necessary to replace it. That’s one main reason why this country is behind in dealing with this crisis. And that is according to the WHO not me.
There are NO special training and screening going on at the borders and the TSA has let people in coming from different countries without proper screening.
There are recorded passengers who actually were able to board a plane and fly as they were already tested positive for Covid-19. That’s not responsible leadership.
In Europe, they had a ton of tourists and travelers that were not screened in time because of economic issues and were then responsible for transmission.
We could have avoided and limit the spread and damages If more timely measures had been put in place.
My example quoted above is just ONE that shows how much the USA is lagging in responding appropriately at large.

Can we not get into an argument about what should have be done but didn’t ?
I’ve been following this in China since mid January, so I know what damages it has caused.

It will not change the situation now but at least many local governments are taking drastic measures to flatten the curve.

What we can do individually is to stay home as much as possible, and if you are a praying person, I say, get on your knees.

There's plenty of real factual news out there. It's what one chooses to read and listen to that makes the difference in increasing knowledge or lack of knowledge.

What happened with Patient 1 in Italy is he went to his doctor mid February, (doctor also got infected) then several hospitals before he was able to get tested. That's when they discovered he was infected. He had been to 3 I believe hospitals, and infected others around him plus his pregnant wife and others. He had no association with China. This was in Northern Italy. Once they realized there was a problem, they started lockdowns. The people in the north wanted to get home, students, those that worked there, etc, home was all over Italy. Those that were infected, probably didn't know, traveled all through out Italy and just infected more. They didn't listen, they didn't stay put like they were told too.

https://www.theguardian.com/world/2020/feb/26/coronavirus-inquiry-opens-into-hospitals-at-centre-of-italy-outbreak

Like Italy China and other countries, they did not take this seriously, tried to hide it, some called it fear mongering, it was a hoax, everything was ok, it was political, a pastor telling people don't stop your lives, go out in the street, I saw all the tweets and listened to all the vids that I'm stating. Here we are three months later and some are just now doing something about it. A little too late IMHO. After what was happening in China, late December/January, all countries IMHO should have stopped all travel, closed businesses etc not March, not three months later.

The pictures coming out of Florida with people on the beach is totally unbelievable to me. I feel sick reading an article out of Italy where doctors are in a position to make a choice on who to treat because there aren't enough ventilators. Are you going to treat a 30 year old or a 70 year old.

https://www.independent.co.uk/news/health/coronavirus-italy-hospitals-doctor-lockdown-quarantine-intensive-care-a9401186.html

My personal opinion, the term fake news is really annoying because that seems to be the answer to all things when there is no opportunity for dialogue because that's their answer. There is a ton, and I mean a ton of accurate information out there, that compare what's fake and what's not with facts proving it. There are people on twitter who make it their mission to provide facts when something is incorrect, and there's always proof.

All I know is it's up to each one of us to stop this, slow it down, and we should listen to the experts, and do as they say. Stay informed and listen/read as many news outlets as possible, not just one news outlet. No sense in playing the blame game IMHO. We need to be outspoken to those who think this isn't serious and give them the facts.

Now the NorCal has the shelter in place ordinance, I don’t know if my boys can drive home this weekend. The college my younger son attends does say the school’s health department has confirmed that the “shelter in place” order does not prevent students from moving out of our student housing facilities to reside somewhere else.

Hopefully that means they can come home. If not, oh well, they know they need to stay inside their apartment.

@Guardianangel, I just want to say I appreciate you so much for always doing research to back up your points bestbud! As they say, knowledge is power and to be forewarned is to be forearmed. I hope all of us continue to stay safe and take the right measures to prevent the spread of this virus.

True , it's all in what you read and what you chose to believe. Trump did not dissolve the pandemic office , Tim Morrison was on that team (former Natl security adviser )the left is pushing that narrative. The Washington post responded to it.

@Jolena I think it's best we stop right here because I'll have to provide facts and I don't want to get into it. Smiley

I think, for me personally, I'm only concerned about doing my part, as @sdmom says on my knees for prayers, making sure my 88 year old mother is ok, and the rest of my family and friends. Doing what I can for anyone that needs help, but most of all, mouth off to everyone I can to stay put as much as possible, wash your hands properly (should be doing this anyway) and keeping distance as much as possible if you have to be out.

Post by sdmom Tue Mar 17, 2020 11:49 pm

Ok I want to share something positive:

My sister lives in Santa Clara County in Northern CA, the county with most confirmed cases. She asked her doctor/nurse friends what she could do for them. One doctor said they are short on n95 masks (this breaks my heart!)
My sister donated a box to them!

I was inspired by her, and asked my husband to ask his friend whose wife is a nurse at a local hospital, I have a box of n95 masks that I’d like to donate. She told me hang on to them. They are ok now.

If we know any medical workers, we can ask if there’s any thing we can help.

Agree with you. Some countries are/were apparently adopting the herd-immunity approach currently:
Dutch Policy March 16

UK Shifts Approach March 17

More research needs to be done to say anything conclusive. Most important to stay at home as much as feasible given the unknowns and the knowns.
