^^ He guides his platoon, carries the guidon. In Marcus' case, Platoon 1050. Each platoon has his "first". It means he did extremely well during training, proven himself every step of the way and stepped up as the leader of his platoon. Being recognized as an Honor Man[chosen by his fellow recruits and instructors] is something very special. Even after being chosen as the guide during training you can get easily fired if you fail to successfully guide your platoon or waiver as a recruit. The later it is in the training the more demanding it is and the more difficult is it to hold onto your position. So huge kudos to Marcus! Very big thing! He can be very proud of himself!
