I can definitely see the JoJo resemblance in this pic: https://pbs.twimg.com/profile_images/808880662040182784/IgYJniqp.jpg but that's the only pic I see the resemblance in IMO.

Caroline Lunny, a lifelong Holliston resident, was awarded the Miss Massachusetts USA crown on Nov. 24. She was picked out of 60 women from across the state for the title.

Wearing the Miss Massachusetts USA crown while maintaining the responsibilities of a full-time college student has been a balancing act for Caroline Lunny, but the 22-year-old pageant queen says she wouldn’t have it any other way.

“I like staying off the beaten path,” said Lunny.

The lifelong Holliston resident was awarded the Miss Massachusetts USA crown on Nov. 24. She was picked out of 60 women from across the state for the title.

Lunny is no stranger to pageants, having won the Miss Massachusetts Teen USA crown in 2008 with no prior experience. This allowed her to go into this year’s competition with a different mindset. “I was calm and just let myself have fun,” she said.

The pageant offers a link to Lunny’s long-time interest in show business.

After graduating from Holliston High School in 2009, Lunny attended the New York Film Academy in Los Angeles for two years where she trained at Universal Studios. The academy is one of Miss USA’s many sponsors.

Lunny’s training involved learning a range of acting skills and working on student projects. She even took a combat class to learn how to act in fight scenes.

“I’ve got a pretty mean high kick,” she quipped.

Even though she took acting classes in high school, Lunny never participated in school plays. “I was scared to put myself out there,” she said, even though she participated in Miss Massachusetts Teen as a high school student.

Lunny says she was more comfortable competing in the pageant despite this fear because it was in a more removed setting. She got involved in pageants at the recommendation of a family friend.

She was drawn to the Miss USA pageant because of its focus on entertainment compared to the Miss America competition, which is more scholarship based, said Lunny.

All of her friends today are people she’s met through Miss USA and she says they all defy the “pageant girl” stereotypes. “They are goal-oriented, driven women,” she said.

Contrary to popular belief, there isn’t a large party scene in the pageant world, Lunny says. In fact, she is not allowed to be seen drinking while wearing her crown and sash.

The pageant world is instead known for another kind of bottle, the kind filled with hair spray. Lunny says that while her Miss USA experience involved some hair spray, it’s far from using a bottle a day.

“I’m not a typical pageant girl,” she said, adding that she doesn’t have a signature wave that she gives while vaguely discussing world peace, an image people often associate with the title.

Aside from the beauty aspect, Lunny says pageants can teach girls important life skills such as the ability to think on their feet. She thinks of it as good preparation for job interviews.

Now studying broadcast journalism at Suffolk University, Lunny hopes to go into the entertainment industry and have her own talk show someday. She believes her pageant experience will help further her goals in this direction.

“I have all these extra layers to get a step up,” she said.
