Most women have insecurities about their chest size and this is just wrong. These guys are clearly clueless above womens insecurities. Poor Ashley. I would have cried too. In fact I have and more than 1 occasion when someone has referd to me and I feel her pain.

I have to say, I highly doubt the guys came up with some of those lines on their own. I think the references to Emily and Chantal and breast size ect have the producers' hands (no pun intended) all over it. Plenty of producer manipulation on that roast date, including sending Bentley to console Ashley.

yeah, I have no doubt the producers had someone write roast-y lines for the guys and Ashley to say so they wouldn't just stand up there and draw a blank. Maybe they gave lines to certain guys and the others were on their own.

I can hear the producers saying things like, "This is a roast, everyone knows you can't take it seriously, Ashley thinks this will be fun!! Don't worry about offending her!" And the guys were total idiots to fall for it. If Ben F is on this date I hope he isn't shown making fun of her (because I like him so much). That's not a good impression to give the audience, even if everyone knows you're not supposed to take a roast seriously.

Of all the tricks and stunts tptb have pulled I think this roast is one of the lowest. Talk about throwing your lead under a bus. It makes me sick that a group of producers thought this was a great idea because they knew how badly it would mess with Ashley and her insecurities. Grrr. It's so cruel.

Anyone with the level of insecurity that Ashley has would absolutely take the roast seriously. She's going to be hurt at so many things that are said because they will feed even deeper into her insecurities.TPTB have hit an all time low for making Ashley go through this.

I totally agree with this and I'm SO afraid it stood in the way of her finding a love story... now we have a guarded and very unsure of herself Ashley... maybe hidden but it happened and it was their impressions or should I say first thoughts according to them when they stepped out of the limo... who let's go of that easily? Who do you truly trust now? And are the ones she's most attracted to... are they the ones who came thinking it was Emily?

Jeepers wrote:I am not so convinced that all of the things she says during the crying in the bed Was all from that clip. She has quite a crying jag after the comedy club roast as well. I have no doubt that she was really hurt by things in this coming episode and as well as future ones as well.

With her insecurities about doing the show not being Emily and then hearing several guys confirm those fears I can definitely see the melt down being a combination of things and the actions of this one guy putting her right over the top

You are correct! There is a lot of editing going on in that clip. Part of the crying she does after the roast was edited into the scene in the house after Bentley leaves. She is upset yes, but tptb did not fail to enhance the clip with some voice overs from the roast.

Well, I think any guy who would joke about Ashley's breasts in this environment, no matter how much the producers egged him on or twisted his arm, is clearly somebody who is not all that interested in Ashley. Either that, or he is a highly insensitive person by nature, so clearly not a fit for her. If she's smart, she'll send all of those guys packing at the earliest opportunity, and be thankful that this humiliation at least gave her the chance to weed them out before they wasted more of her time.

After watching the clip on Grapevine of Bentley sympathetically listening to Jeff's story, I have to say this guy is good at ingratiating himself with people and appearing concerned and sensitive (all an act, apparently), so in a way, I'm not surprised he fooled Ashley and won her over so quickly. Don't want to diagnose, but it's a typical personality trait of a sociopath, to have that gift of being almost hypnotically charming, all the while laughing on the inside about how easily he is snowing his victims. Just sayin'.

What about if it were Ben?

Maybe it was more about feeling stupid. She was warned about Bentley and still believed it. Maybe it's more out of anger kinda like Ali and the Frank situation. Just a guess. :D

noobsleuth, I just came across your avatar and I love it. I have that episode on DVD and it was my favorite one. I bet sometimes that is exactly what happens when the show is done filming.

Well...just because you conveniently threw it out there:
"Profile of the Sociopath

This website summarizes some of the common features of descriptions of the behavior of sociopaths.

Glibness and Superficial Charm

Manipulative and Conning
They never recognize the rights of others and see their self-serving behaviors as permissible. They appear to be charming, yet are covertly hostile and domineering, seeing their victim as merely an instrument to be used. They may dominate and humiliate their victims.

Grandiose Sense of Self
Feels entitled to certain things as "their right."

Pathological Lying
Has no problem lying coolly and easily and it is almost impossible for them to be truthful on a consistent basis. Can create, and get caught up in, a complex belief about their own powers and abilities. Extremely convincing and even able to pass lie detector tests.

Lack of Remorse, Shame or Guilt
A deep seated rage, which is split off and repressed, is at their core. Does not see others around them as people, but only as targets and opportunities. Instead of friends, they have victims and accomplices who end up as victims. The end always justifies the means and they let nothing stand in their way.

Shallow Emotions
When they show what seems to be warmth, joy, love and compassion it is more feigned than experienced and serves an ulterior motive. Outraged by insignificant matters, yet remaining unmoved and cold by what would upset a normal person. Since they are not genuine, neither are their promises.

Incapacity for Love

Need for Stimulation
Living on the edge. Verbal outbursts and physical punishments are normal. Promiscuity and gambling are common.

Callousness/Lack of Empathy
Unable to empathize with the pain of their victims, having only contempt for others' feelings of distress and readily taking advantage of them.

Poor Behavioral Controls/Impulsive Nature
Rage and abuse, alternating with small expressions of love and approval produce an addictive cycle for abuser and abused, as well as creating hopelessness in the victim. Believe they are all-powerful, all-knowing, entitled to every wish, no sense of personal boundaries, no concern for their impact on others.

Early Behavior Problems/Juvenile Delinquency
Usually has a history of behavioral and academic difficulties, yet "gets by" by conning others. Problems in making and keeping friends; aberrant behaviors such as cruelty to people or animals, stealing, etc.

Irresponsibility/Unreliability
Not concerned about wrecking others' lives and dreams. Oblivious or indifferent to the devastation they cause. Does not accept blame themselves, but blames others, even for acts they obviously committed.

Promiscuous Sexual Behavior/Infidelity
Promiscuity, child sexual abuse, rape and sexual acting out of all sorts.

Lack of Realistic Life Plan/Parasitic Lifestyle
Tends to move around a lot or makes all encompassing promises for the future, poor work ethic but exploits others effectively.

Criminal or Entrepreneurial Versatility
Changes their image as needed to avoid prosecution. Changes life story readily.
Other Related Qualities:

Contemptuous of those who seek to understand them
Does not perceive that anything is wrong with them
Authoritarian
Secretive
Paranoid
Only rarely in difficulty with the law, but seeks out situations where their tyrannical behavior will be tolerated, condoned, or admired
Conventional appearance
Goal of enslavement of their victim(s)
Exercises despotic control over every aspect of the victim's life
Has an emotional need to justify their crimes and therefore needs their victim's affirmation (respect, gratitude and love)
Ultimate goal is the creation of a willing victim
Incapable of real human attachment to another
Unable to feel remorse or guilt
Extreme narcissism and grandiose
May state readily that their goal is to rule the world"

(The above traits are based on the psychopathy checklists of H. Cleckley and R. Hare.)

Poor J.P gets the task of dating Ashley in the wake of Bentley’s shocking activities. How will the 34 year old construction manger from New York handle the emotionally fragile Bachelorette? He has a few ideas but does he have any idea how bad things really are?

This sounds...weird?

I wonder if their "conflict" will be learning to trust him?

Big: You know, Manhattan has a lot of beautiful women.
Carrie: What an amazing observation!
Big: But the thing is, after awhile, you just wanna be with the one who makes you laugh.

Yep, sounds like the "obstacle" the couple will have to work through? Also lines up with his statement that "if he was in love with someone, there isn't anything he wouldn't do for her."

I wonder if she hides how upset she really is with the Bentley thing. The quote makes it seem like JP has no clue on how affected she was by what happened.
