Regarding the casting - this was based on a hit show in Denmark (of all places)
Now..remember Denmark is a small country, pretty "homogeneous', with Scandinavian viewpoint (ie, not so hung up on religion, puritanical).

Um, it depends on who you talk to in Denmark. IIRC there were some strong negative reactions to the Danish production. But, yeah, there is definitely a different approach to things.
