Quick question for those of you who follow the edit and stuff that may/may not mean anything. Do the picture placements in the pre-rose ceremony hold any meaning? I know they used to but I haven't followed the show for a few seasons so I'm not so sure now.
Do not argue with an idiot. He will drag you down to his level and beat you with experience. Going to church doesn't make you a Christian any more than standing in your garage makes you a car.

No, I don't think so. Not for this season at least. The pictures have been all over the place. In episode 4, Sean and Jef were both on the top shelf. Arie was somewhere on the very bottom (She had the best connection with Arie at that point, so it doesn't make sense that he was on the bottom) and Chris in the middle. Next episode, Arie's photo is on the very top, Sean right below, and Jef and Chris on the bottom.

OK... Sean got it kissing in front of Buckingham Palace. Chris got it after kissing in Croatia.
Jef just sang "the dreamers and me" in the song "The Rainbow Connection"
I think what we need is a Mega Post covering all of the episodes. Better stand back, folks! Ha ha!

The Readers Digest Edit Of This Silly Season…
Summarizing for those who need a cluster of “stuff” culled together.
Feel free to expand with add-ons, make corrections or use anything here that might be useful.
Ep #1: Meet & Greet… just the highlights
In the intros we see “Southern Gentleman” Kalon impressive in black … and later Arie sporting black and shades. Both guys want to settle down from the fast lane. Ryan, Tony, Lerone and Charlie work out their abs. Ryan loves working with kids, while Tony actually has one. Charlie may be hunky, but he also has that head injury backstory… not that there is anything wrong with his heart. Speaking of heart, David the songwriter sings from his and seeks “perfect love”. Jef and Arie are both shown in motion, skateboard and race-car. Jef says he is often underestimated by appearances, but is young and wants to enjoy life and believes in the fairy tale.
Arie’s storyline is set up immediately: “I know Emily’s fiancé also raced and he passed away on the way to a race. Being a race car driver could bring back painful memories for her, so I’m definitely nervous going into this. I know it’s a big risk but I’m willing to take that risk and I hope she does to.” He brings this up in his first sit-down meeting with her.
Among the deleted intros later put online on Warner’s site: frontrunner Sean also works out, comments on the long marriages in his family and “what you see is what you get”. Kyle resembles Kalon “showering in confidence” and like Sean, Ryan, Tony and Lerone is proud of his perfect body, wanting to give us a view. In contrast, Michael is a musician who works with the blind. His backstory involves drug abuse. Brent, edited like Tony, is shown with all of his (mostly teenaged) kids. Alejandro’s intro resembles both Charlie and Michael (sad backstory) and Jef (has unique business). Stevie is just a funny DJ who makes people laugh. No intro for Chris or Doug… curiously.
Sean, Ryan, Lerone and Charlie all own dogs. Charlie asks his bulldog what he thinks about a girl and the bark is “no”. This will come to play as a key theme. In episode #7, Emily gets Arie to rub a dog to test his “loyalty”. Jef jokingly asks Emily that same episode if they should get a dog together and she says Ricki prefers cats.
Ironically Brent, daddy to six kids, and the fitness trainer who rips off his shirt (as Sean is asked to do in episode #3 by Emily’s friends) get the boot.
Several guys have unique entrances including “Grandma” Randy (appearances aren’t everything), Tony with the slipper (fairytale theme), Travis with the egg (father there to protect) and Kalon’s helicopter aping everybody else (appearance is everything… the bigger the better). Jef, who makes her feel like a nerd, disposes his skateboard rather quickly and hopes that Emily is not just impressed by material things. (Then again, in episode #5, she is happy to get Ryan’s bracelet.)
Key Chris quotes after Tony arrives with slipper:
When I came into this, I told myself… (Sean shown)
This isn’t a competition (Chris speaking)
But… when I want something (Jef shown)
I’m going to do everything in my power (Chris speaking)
to make sure I get that. Feelings… (Arie shown)
may get hurt (Chris speaking)
down the road (Sean shown, who responds “It’s gonna be tough”)
Jef has yet to get the “father to Ricki” role, but his skateboard talk with her is sandwiched between two fatherhood scenes: Travis’ egg is being guarded on the seat before Jef is seen with her. After, Doug brings Austin’s letter for her to read. He gets the first impression rose because she can relate to his single parent status. This structure vaguely resembles Ryan Sutter in episode #1 of Trista’s season: his poem is read between Josh saying he wants six kids and Brian the breast implant salesman, since Trista’s primary themes were her love of kids and men finding her overly attractive.
Like Doug, Ryan brought a letter (shown right out of the limo). His resembled an 11 year old’s, even if Doug’s was actually written by one.
Chris’ bobblehead starts off a doll/puppet theme for the season.
Chris is dubbed by her as “super hot” and Arie would be “hot” in a race car. Jef is “super cool” and she gets a “cool vibe” from, but also hopes he considers her “cool” too. Emily has yet to state on screen that she wants to be thought of as “hot”. Throughout the rest of the season, both Chris and Arie keep chirping the word “cool” constantly.
Other assorted voice-over “bytes” involving the top 4…
Arie: You exceeded my expectations (Emily) / The guys are putting so much pressure on themselves (Emily taps him as she voice-overs) / I wouldn’t have the feelings (that I hope to have)… (Emily… camera switches from Arie to Jef for the second part)
Sean: Things got tense… (someone talking) / Have some competition / You have blown me away (Emily on these) / Who am I going to send home? (Emily) / I cannot be more excited (Emily)
Chris: some guys are a little ‘out there’ (somebody talking) / She’s made a good impression on all of you. (Chris Harrison at rose ceremony) / A million times over… (Emily) / I have a great group of guys here (Emily)
Jef: most eligible (first promo, Harrison voice-over) / the romance begins (Harrison) / Skinny guys (somebody talking) / Hi (Emily intro) / I’m a hopeless romantic (Emily) / I’ve done sales (Kalon) / (I wouldn’t have the feelings) that I hope to have… (Emily… camera switches from Arie to Jef for the second part) / you make me feel like I deserve to be here (Emily) / (you gave me butterflies) in my stomach (Emily)
Ep #2:
The second episode often solidifies the Bachelorette’s goal for her final choice.
-The first date featured super confident Ryan visiting Emily’s home in Charlotte, but Emily lacking confidence presenting him to Ricki. However, Ryan dances to Gloriana music in front of a crowd.
-The group date tested multiple guys’ confidence and one, Charlie, opened up to Emily about his own personal struggle. Kermit the frog praised Emily as a “catch” who would make any guy extremely lucky and worth any struggle. Ricki was present in the audience watching Jef propose to Miss Piggy. There was much public dancing on Muppet date. Guys eavesdroped on Stevie dancing singly with her afterward.
-The last date had Joe visit her childhood resort in West Virginia. Ricki was briefly discussed on Joe’s date, but the emphasis focused on the romantic connection… unsuccessfully. There was a private dance with Joe on his date.
-At the pe-RC meetings, Ryan is dubbed a “confidence killer” halting Tony.
While Emily prevents him from meeting Ricki, Ryan later postpones Tony from telling her about his son by giving her a long seven paged letter and makes her read it like Doug’s son’s letter in the previous episode. Jef is the one commenting in PI about it.
Despite being all about appearances, Ryan tells Joe and others at the mansion that you would never guess that “hunky” Charlie had a serious head injury and currently struggles with his speech. Likewise, Jef stated the previous episode that many underestimate him by outward appearances alone.
Most important date of the season?
Joe’s date is a key one for this season for reasons we have yet to determine, despite Emily forgetting his last name. It is obvious from the first rose ceremony position and meet & greet photo position that he was high on her radar that first night. Joe and Jef are “polar opposites” in the rose ceremony line-up, just as William and JP were (being Ashley’s top two frontrunners getting wedding themed dates with the key line “Are you nervous?”) When she discusses Joe’s departure to the guys, the camera pans Jef. Another intriguing Joe/Jef connection: Emily is shown with her daughter after Joe’s date preparing for bedtime and before Jef’s in episode #5 preparing for bedtime.
Key quote by Joe in the first episode promo: “Sometimes in life you have to take a leap of faith. I want to make this happen for her, Ricky, myself”. This quote is heard over slow moving ‘20s cars in Prague in the promo. Joe rides a slow moving car in West Virginia and Emily promises “it will get better”. Humorously, Ryan (who did not get booted on his 1 on 1 date that week) has a tie-in here on his very last date in Croatia: “I’m a very safe driver. You may not feel safe, but I never get into accidents.” Alas… he gets canned because he doesn’t include a “loving but not perfect family” on his top 12 list.
When Joe and Emily leap into a 100-year old pool at Greenbriar, there is an edit cut to a newer pool in Charlotte with a bunch of guys sunbathing. Tony asks if anybody is ready to “jump into a father role”. This sets up for a tit-for-tat between Kalon and Doug. Ironically, Kalon earlier praises Ricki on the Muppet date.
Joe’s love clock sets up the TIME theme this season. One reason he gets dumped is on account of his whatever-you-want responses to what he sees in five years. She feels they are not at the same “place” (or time). Joe’s clock is set at midnight, like Big Ben bonging away in London at the 5th rose ceremony and likely Jef’s kissing scene earlier that episode as well. Big Ben was shown daytime with Sean (no kiss after 3PM). Another clock is at the top of the stairs when Em grills Arie (#5) and the many are seen on his daylight Prague date (#7).
Other multi-episode connections with #2:
Charlie’s physical speech handicap on the Muppet date foreshadows other guys’ speech “handicaps” in several later episodes.
“Where the hell is Jef?” comes from Emily’s mouth after the Muppet date. In episodes #3, #5 and #6 by Sean, Arie and Chris each tell her they “missed” her (and she them), but we have yet to hear that coming from him. In episode #2, Emily tells Ryan: "Honey I’m gon’ give you a chase if you ask for it” and he chirps back: "Oooh Lord, I’m ready!" and later "This southern boy knows how to chase!" In episode #6, she explains to Doug that she prefers to be pursued.
Kalon jokes about the guys being focused more on each other with Emily rather than themselves with her. He interrupts Stevie’s time (much as Sean interrupted him on night #1), but this at least stops the guys from eavesdropping so much. In episode #3, Ryan eavesdrops on Arie kissing her, although we see others observing as well.
Ryan is “perfect like Brad” as Doug is in episode #4. The whole “perfect like Brad” is probably a semi-compliment, meaning perfect looking. She admitted that she is fussy with her own looks. Doug doesn’t exactly deserve this statement unless she thinks he’s too-good-to-true (i.e. hiding something). Ryan is a “perfectionist” though, preening a lot in mirrors. Ryan told Emily the following episode that if she got fat he would still love her, but not “on“ her.
John’s “dig” on Kalon’s Louis Vuitton luggage foreshadows all of the “baggage” drama in episode #5, although Jef carefully compares Ricki to a different brand on his date.
Chris says “It’s hard to believe any of these guys would have that same connection” before an edit jump-cut to Jef. There are a cluster of these and I’ll let the experts weed them all out. The most notable involves Arie saying he feels he has no competition in episode #4. We jump into Jef’s time with her on the beach. When Chris hopes Emily hasn’t forgotten their early connection early in episode #6, the edit cuts to Jef. When Ryan says he doubts she will find the right guy after his dumping, the edit cuts to Jef.
Ryan’s “flowery” apron in this episode foreshadows Arie and Doug sporting dresses in London (#5) and Jef and the others being “brave” in their kilts in Croatia (#6). Ryan is not entirely comfortable in his apron, but Jef sports wild shorts and socks in Bermuda (#4) without a hitch.
Jef’s proposing to Miss Piggy resembles Jef expressing his affection with a marionette (ep #7). Other puppets and dolls include Chris’ bobbleheads (#1), the “creepy” dolls Emily sees before kissing Arie (#6).
Joe being dumped for doing nothing wrong, but Emily not feeling butterflies and feeling they aren’t in the same place in “time”, foreshadows Nate leaving on the 2 on 1 date (#4) and Travis’ dumping (#6). She claims to feel butterflies over a shot of Jef in episode #1 and later “in my heart” with Sean in London (#5).
Fireworks after Joe leaves (and Emily watching them alone) foreshadow those after Jef gets the rose in Bermuda (#4… and Emily watching them with Jef’s arm around her). Arie gets a similar scene in episode #7 when he declares his love for her.
The Ryan Sutter-Trista’s guitar rift…
Tony is the first to receive it when he discusses how much he misses his son to her. (In addition, Tony’s discussion of both he and his son loving the Muppets also matches up with Doug discussing his son loving the movie #6 and the castle #7.)
Sean is the second in episode #3 just before his perfect father role discussion. The track gets louder when she says Sean sees her and Ricki as a blessing.
Arie is the third to get the guitar rift as he leaves Emily in Croatia, crooning that he sees Emily as his wife (#6). He gets again declaring his love for her in Prague over fireworks. (#7)
In past seasons, this music was an indicator of final one: Roberto, Emily on Brad’s season and JP got it during pivotal moments (Roberto agreeing to the Fantasy Date, Brad addressing deceased Ricky with Emily after the NASCAR date and when JP told Ashley to never be afraid to tell him anything in Hong Kong). Previously, it was often played in the finale, even with Melissa getting proposed by Jason… before getting dumped at After The Final Rose. Nicki received it twice on Ben’s season during discussions of marriage and long term relationships, but the rules were broken when she was dramatically dumped in Switzerland, mistakenly thinking she was ready to be a wife ad mother and that Ben was ready. This season, they are deliberately using it for “things Emily wants” and is finding in numerous guys who rival her final one.
The Rainbow Connection is introduced
The Muppets song performed in episode #2 foreshadows a huge rainbow appearing in Croatia (#6), when Chris and Emily exchange their “I missed you” followed by his “you had me worried”. Chris kissed her at this point. Was Emily thinking about Chris when he said that? Sean gets a small rainbow “flare” in front of Buckingham Palace in ep #5. When photographed kissing her, a light beam splits them. Have to see who else gets these… it looks like Arie might on his hometown. There is something very bizarre and otherworldly about these scenes.
In Ali’s season, Chris Lambton got his full rainbow in Tahiti reminding him of his mother and that she was looking after him despite his heartbreak, but the others, including F1 Roberto, received key “flares”. However… only Roberto got the flare when kissing Ali. She was sitting with Frank by the Hollywood sign, starting to meet Ty at the Blue Lagoon and was “mind wandering” with Kirk at a Lisbon castle when the other key flares were showcased.
For various reasons, this season is much different but using some kind of rainbow theme.
Do the lyrics of the John Williams song (a product of the cynical seventies when Kermit first sang it…1978) indicate anything?
Why are there so many songs about rainbows / and what's on the other side?
Rainbows are visions, but only illusions, / and rainbows have nothing to hide.
So we've been told and some choose to believe it. / I know they're wrong, wait and see.
Someday we'll find it, the rainbow connection. / The lovers, the dreamers and me.
Who said that every wish would be heard / and answered when wished on the morning star?
Somebody thought of that and someone believed it. / Look what it's done so far.
What's so amazing that keeps us star gazing / and what do we think we might see?
Someday we'll find it, the rainbow connection. / The lovers, the dreamers and me.
All of us under its spell. We know that it's probably magic.
Have you been half asleep and have you heard voices? / I've heard them calling my name.
Is this the sweet sound that called the young sailors. / The voice might be one and the same.
I've heard it too many times to ignore it. / It's something that I'm supposed to be.
Someday we'll find it, the rainbow connection. / The lovers, the dreamers and me.
Key phrases: “rainbows have nothing to hide” (and Emily thinks a few guys have something to hide… not Sean though) but “only illusions”. “Some choose to believe it. I know they’re wrong”. We also get the wish clock on Joe’s date and Emily wasn’t getting her wish on that date, but “Who said that every wish would be heard…” Basically, this song is about searching for that connection, but also about many people being fooled by the rainbow… the make-believe pot of gold not always there.
The singer was originally Kermit, whom Emily talks to in the outtakes that episode. Emily tells Kermit there is nobody as cute as him, as he asks if she’ll find her prince. He is also mimicked by Tony in one scene “Emily should pick Tony”. Fittingly, Tony brought the glass slipper, prince-style, in episode #1, but left later for his son since he was as important to him as Ricki is to her. The real Kermit-ish “bachelor” is neither a “lover” or “dreamer”… or is he? Jef is shown singing “the dreamers and me” as if he is “me” instead.
Summarizing for those who need a cluster of “stuff” culled together.

Re: The Bachelorette 8 - Emily Maynard - Edit Thread - Discussion
Ep #3:
Silly superhero tidbits: Chris scales a building on his date (his date card reads “Love is a steady climb”). Humorously, Emily’s friends fantasized Sean in spandex. Tony says he is Joker and his son (Taylor) Batman. The newspaper photo of Chris’ date is shown to Emily by her friends and she just glances with half interest. In an outtake extra, Chris is crooning more enthusiastically over the same article with Arie and Kalon.
Over his date dinner, Chris’ age of 25 is a “red flag” to her in regards to parenting. We abruptly get a cut to Tony calling five-year old Taylor on the phone. Later Chris explains to her how he should not be judged by age alone when it comes to parenthood.
Chris and Arie get country music played on their dates.
Chris’ theme song is Luke Bryan’s “Drunk On You” with the key lyric “Girl, you make my speakers go boom boom”.
Dolly Parton’s key lyrics for Arie on his solo date: “Don’t let love blind you. Just let love find you…”
Apart from these two getting solo dates, the only ones not meeting her friends and playing with children are Kalon and quiet Nate.
Jef’s meeting with her friends on the group date is sandwiched between this episode’s key players Tony and Doug. Later, Tony misses his own child so much that he leaves… the daddy of all daddies. Doug is a key player in Tony’s departure scene. He also gives Ashley his foster home back story this episode. Her line “You are the least angry person I know” may or may not be true if Arie is more serious with his mockery in episode #4.
Although Jef is complimented by Emily in the way he relates to children on the group date, Sean (a genetic gift to the world) gets the group rose on that date instead. (Emily does, however, say “I want to give this rose to…” over a shot of Jef.) Later in the episode, after Alessandro’s departure, Sean tells her “I can step into any role and be the greatest father in the world.”
Oddball edit: During the Dollywood date with Arie, the sneaky b*****ds slipped in the quote “for me, this is the happiest place on earth” showing Emily all tanned after the fantasy dates. She may not even discussing Dollywood! Actually three or so PIs used in the group date as well date from this session.
Equally oddball are Emily’s lines towards the end of Arie’s date with much splice and voice pitch variation. The blatant highlight is this one: “I thought from day one that Arie reminds me a lot of / my daughter’s dad / Ricky” (just in case we need to be reminded.) Dolly Parton’s second song questions “who else in this world will love you like that?” over their kiss on the merry-go-round. (Body language experts will have fun with her moving eyes in the PIs during this date, particularly her concern about “screwing it up” with Arie.)
Travis before “laying Shelley to rest”: If you love something, you have to set them free, baby
(This scene is between her uncomfortable scenes with Kalon and Alessandro regarding parenthood. Cut is the scene involving Alessandro’s protecting the mansion from vampires.)
Arie comforts Emily with his kissing after Alessandro. Ryan labels Arie a “dainty” man and doesn’t understand what she sees in him. (Jef is also not as macho as Ryan.)
Ep #4: Bermuda
Doug/Arie connection: Doug is “hiding something” per Emily; same comment for Arie in episode #7. Arie mocks Doug’s anger issues “It is like the Hulk. Doug angry. Doug smash. Doug sad.” Also, Doug is accused of being too stressed out for a simple date, although Arie states in three episodes about being “freaked out” him self.
Doug/Jef/Arie connection: Doug is cautious about kissing Emily. Jef is too. Doug also tells Ryan that kissing is for “younger” guys and not the true measure of a relationship. In contrast, when Arie kisses Emily, he forgets everything else. Emily contrasts Jef and Arie when talking to Chris Harrison. This pattern is repeated in episode #6 (Croatia) with Jef actually telling her that he was scared about kissing her before London. Doug appears timid pre-rose ceremony and is ridiculed by Arie behind his back or being slow in the top six. Again, Arie states that kissing Emily puts him on top of the world.
Chris/Nate connection: Doug is in conflict a bit with Chris, who is just 25… insinuating that 33 is a better age for fatherhood, among other things. (Jef stated in an interview that he would agree with Chris that age is just a number.) Nate is 25 as well and gets dumped on his date with John. Nate fusses about not getting much time with her though… as Chris will in episode #7.
Also the postcard to Austin is probably significant in some way… maybe that card never reaches Austin?
The boat race involves yellow (Back in Black) defeating red (Mayhem).
Emily and Ricki watch a hen brood over her chicks… blatant analogy. She plays croquet with Ricki. In an outtake, Jef teaches others on the sport. She twirls Ricki much like Jef twirls another girl in episode #3 (both shots in first episode promo).
Ryan/Arie connection: All of Ryan and Arie’s scenes parallel each other here with both thinking there is no competition to them in the house and the camera frequently panning on Jef after key PIs by both. When Ryan gets dumped in Croatia (#6), he doubts she will ever find the right guy just as the camera cuts to Jef.
Is Ryan’s plans to be a Bachelor foreshadowing/smokescreening anybody else or just a one story idea?
Ep #5: London
Her date with Sean involves the theme of “prisoner of Love” with dinner at the Tower. There may be multiple meanings in that phrase, not all relating to Sean. Earlier, he publicly declares in the park with a crowd that he may not be in love now, but he is hopeful. Again, this line may not be as much about Sean as it is about Emily. Intriguingly, it contrasts with Ryan’ hammy performance in Romeo & Juliet later on the group date and bfore the next rose ceremony.
Sean is photographed in front of Buckingham Palace (light beam splitting their kiss). Emily earlier photographs Ricki there. Ricki thinks the princess and the dragon reside inside.
Both Sean and Jef had Big Ben prominent on their dates. Sean daytime at 3:10 PM. Jef close to midnight. Not sure exactly. Arie had a clock at the top of the stairs when Emily grilled him about the Kalon business and wasn’t kissing her. (They do near the bridge earlier though.)
The guys all take Shakespeare differently… Arie and Kalon take it very seriously, while others enjoy it. She hopes the guys just have fun with it.
Arie plays the “nurse” in Romeo & Juliet (although also dubbed Juliet jokingly twice). Key quote heard over Emily hugging Arie is “sounds like I’m on my death bed”, with reference to the play in question… and with an indirect reference to her own lost love Ricky. This is one of MANY indirect references made between Arie and her ex. His comment "But non but fools do where get casted off" (followed by "I don't know what the f*** I just said") hints that he just drafted himself into the role of a fool to be "cast off".
Arie comments on Ryan playing Romeo “Thouest suck”. Regarding the kissing:” Dude, it's a play. You're not actually kissing her". However, “Emily likes bad boys” Ryan manages to kiss her later twice, giving her the bracelet and butchering Shakespeare pre-rose ceremony.
Oddball line by Ryan quoting Romeo & Juliet over end credits. “Death is trying to keep you from me.”
Much of her anger towards Kalon comes from the fact that she expected him to understand her better, being raised by a single mother. Her “Get the F out” to Kalon echoes Arie’s earlier "I don't know what the f*** I just said". Her calling Arie out later for not standing by her side has him frequently saying “I wish I could re-do that speech…”
Jef gets a serious and fussy tea ritual to delay any “wooing” on his date with Emily. Both he and Emily bolt out during it for fish & chips.
Curious Jef/Ryan Sutter (in Trista’s season) connection: The “giant egg” (actually a Travis connection) resembles in structure the space needle date in Seattle (Ryan/Trista). Also these key quotes resemble each other.
Jeff: “Um… I kinda feel like I missed out on some opportunities to kinda show you why I’m here and not just tell you. I was, like, killing myself about for leaving without kissing you in Bermuda and I would definitely be really bummed if I didn’t take advantage of London while I’m with you.”
Ryan Sutter in Vail, Colorado: “The whole, um, living once and taking chances toast… that’s because I really, really want to kiss you and I have been, like, completely scared to do it this whole entire time… and if I let you off out of here without kissing you, not only is everyone gonna shoot me, but I might shoot myself.” (Jef says he was scared to kiss her in Croatia.)
This whole episode also echoes Ashley’s episode #3 in its structure…
1.) Comedy roast with a live audience.
2.) William collapses.
3.) Ashley breaks down. One Ryan kisses her though and gets the group rose.
4.) Bentley leaves.
5.) JP says he wants to make sure she’s OK and restores her on his date.
6.) Ashley cancels cocktail, but may have wanted to grill the guys over “something” that happened after the comedy roast we know nothing about.
1.) Shakespeare with a live audience.
2.) Kalon is twice dubbed “intense”.
3.) Emily breaks down after Doug reports Kalon’s “baggage” comment.
4.) Kalon leaves.
5.) Jef says he wants to make sure she’s OK and restores her on his date.
6.) Emily uses cocktail to grill the guys. One Ryan kisses her three times this episode.
Ep #6: Dubrovnik
The theme is the Julie Andrews song “I Have Confidence”
When Chris tells her he missed her on the Brave date and “you had me worried” (original lack of [i[confidence[/i]), a rainbow is visible.
Sean promises to always be confident with her, as he was on the Brave challenge breaking a log like a cartoon character did on screen.
Arie feels confident when he kisses her, actually seeing her as his wife as he leaves her place at night. He is “convinced” he will be the guy at the end… uh oh.
Emily must coax Doug into being confident pre-rose ceremony, despite his brute strength on the Brave challenge. He is also compared to a character in the Pixar movie, as was blond haired and skinny Jef, who is gradually gaining confidence himself. Jef admits he was scared to kiss Emily. Doug shows that to a degree pre-rose ceremony, sitting with Emily.
Ryan has no problem here: “I look at myself every day when I wake up and say to myself: Who do you want to be today? Most men don’t do that.” “Look at this beautiful view” he chirps, standing in front of Emily.
His problems are different though. Emily says to Ryan: “I don’t want to be someone’s mold.” She also dumps him on his date because he doesn’t put a loving-if-not-perfect family at the top of his list.
In contrast, she spares John because of his loving family, including deceased grandparents. She spares Doug as well… who misses his son enough to cry in PIs.
Although it added little to the storyline, none of us can resist this chestnut:
Ryan: “Every man should believe his wife is a trophy.”
Emily: “Trophies don’t talk back.”
Ryan: “Well you definitely would be the first of that kind.”
Travis is edited a little like Sean on his date. She wants him to take his shirt off (like her friends got Sean to do) and they buy crosses (faith connection). He dumps the umbrella quickly in the rain. He sobs, dressed in black T, about his rejection and says his heart is so big in a PI, but then… baffles us with the weird line of “I don’t want to waste her time”. Did he want to leave earlier?
Before Arie kisses Emily, she comments that (after looking in the shop window) “those dolls look creepy”. No clue what that was all about. Certainly not multiple girlfriends… LOL!
However, the following voice-overs relate to Arie... anything important?
"Lasting love requires bravery" is Jef reading the group date card as the camera pans on Arie.
Arie says "I’m worried if Emily is OK" over a shot of Jef... hinting that he was Jef's voice during that scene. His visit with Emily may not have been because he was "worried" about Emily, however.
"Falling in love is a huge risk" is spoken by Emily during the rose ceremony with Arie shown.
Cats and donkeys were the star critters, the latter being ridden by the guys on their date and in the outtake. Ryan hopes he won’t be edited as an arrogant ass. A black cat is seen alone meowing in alley when Ryan gets dumped. Half black/half white cat is roaming with a mission before Arie meets Emily in private. Three striped cats are seen before and after movie “Brave”. Mostly white cats are shown at the start.
Ep #7: Prague
Odd scenes of interest:
The Cassie saga is much to do about nothing, especially since Emily confirmed on people.com that she knew somebody dated her since the beginning, but only learned it was Arie at this stage. What I personally suspect, however, is that this is a smokescreen for something else regarding Arie the producers don’t want us knowing about… yet, at least. When he starts discussing his tattoo with her, the editors do their usual snipping. They agree to have no secrets, so one wonders if Emily secretively tells Arie he is not the one… or the one (if the spoilers are wrong and he is).
John’s lock was clearly rigged in the key part and he realizes this on camera. It should have been a sign that production wanted a “red flag” for Emily to talk about on their date… the lock not closing summing up their struggling relationship.
Speaking of keys, why did Emily purposely hand Sean, not Chris, the “man key”? She knew which one worked!
Sean looking for Emily was clearly set up, but why after John’s date? John did not go home. Arie did his after Ryan’s date, but the guys knew he got the boot.
At first I was impressed by Doug’s very teary eyed performance in the limo when he was sacked, then realized there were jump cuts in the editing. He is NOT crying about Emily or Austin, but an event that occurred a looooong time ago… whatever it may have been.
John’s departing line: “Maybe I’ll find my Cinderella some day”. Oooof! First Tony’s slipper, then a castle on this episode and now this?
Chris tells Emily at the rose ceremony that he “acted like a baby yesterday”. When? His date was not yesterday was it? When was Jef’s date? Was this something cut from the screen?
Yeah… Reality Steve revealed that Jef’s “I’d date you so hard then marry the s*** out of you” was an ecard standard. Yet, if Courtney can quote from SEX IN THE CITY, why not Jef “out-source”?
Repeating lines:
Arie & Jef separately: “I’m stoked”
Sean (in the alley) & Chris (hide & go seek scene in promo): Emily!!!!
Arie & Sean separately: “I’m on top of the world”. (Let’s remember that Emily saw TITANIC before this… so I doubt these two thought of these lines on their own.)
In contrast, the word “uphill battle” is used by both John and Chris.
When Emily uses “honestly” a lot like she does talking to Chris, she may not be all that honest. Ashley used that word a lot when talking about Bentley and talking directly to Constantine, Ben and others… but only once with JP on their first date, indirectly referencing to him about… Bentley. William used “honestly” a lot when he said he wanted to go home at the comedy roast… and Ashley refused to let him because of it.
Other odds & ends:
Ugh! More clocks… and on several dates! Arie's are set at 3:30-45 PM about.
Also a heavy doggie episode.
Emily says on screen that Ricki likes cats and Jef asks jokingly “can we get a dog together”. Already coming off of a kitty infested episode #6, Arie’s rubbing of a dog relief to test his “loyalty” has crious implications here… since Emily is more committed to the other species. Add to this the black Newfoundland (?) following her and Ryan in Croatia… and Sean, Ryan, Charlie and Lerone sporting dogs in the episode #1 intros.
Arie drinks “hot” wine. “Hot” is a word used a lot with him, Chris and Sean… but never Jef, who is “cool”. Arie says the fireworks on display are “cool” though. Later Jef says showing Emily his family will be “cool”.
Key Emily voice-over during Arie’s date:
I just want to go and have fun and pretend, like, it’s just my husband and I on vacation in Prague and this is what we do.
The famous Ryan-Trista guitar rift was played previously over Tony, Sean and Arie this season. In this episode it was repeated a second time with Arie, just as it was repeated twice with Nicki in Ben’s season. Obviously, we can’t use it as a “final one” indicator like we did in Jake’s, Ali’s, Brad’s and Ashley’s seasons.
Coy Emily speaking to Arie: If things keep going this way, nothing will make me happier. (cue the guitar rift)
Hilarious line from Arie: I think I am a good reflection of who I am back home…
Arie sees himself marrying Emily (“totally the woman of my dreams”), but Emily isn’t using the same words. She does, however, see herself walking into Jef’s office and seeing pictures of their family. Speaking of the verb “see”, Emily also agrees that she and Jef “see” through each other’s eyes. Back in episode #2, she jesters hr eyes to get Jef o propose to Miss Piggy.
John “Wolfe” gets to write on John’s wall… John Lennon’s that is. John is accused of not opening up with his feelings, so Emily hopes their art at the John Lennon wall will get him to. In a curious way, his date resembles Jef’s… also better expressing himself in an indirect way, through marionettes.
John gets his picture taken with Emily in front of the wall, just like Sean (London) and Ryan (Dubrovnik) previously. Sean is spared as a top 3 finalist, but this snapshot business is a kiss of death this season. Roberto got his picture taken in Lisbon, but I doubt we are getting Ali’s seasonal repeating here.
The write on the lock business resembles Constantine’s wish lantern in Taiwan back in Ashley’s season. The struggle with the lock matches the dog marking his territory on the lantern (that Taiwan episode was another doggie themed one), Ryan Park’s love blocks not landing right (“Oh boy!”) and, previously in Hong Kong, the canaries giving a bad fortune to Lucas… much as Frank and Ali got a bad fortune reading in Turkey.
This line was left in on purpose, since something goes down with Chris later… “I took my time with Emily for granted, which was MY fault.”
Curiously, “jealous” Chris was edited a little like “jealous” JP in the corresponding episode last year, but the end result proved different.
Although edited differently on the episode, the preview had John discussing his date and “I knocked it out of the park” over a shot of Jef… who was the one who apparently did this episode.
On Jef’s date, these lines are significant for various reasons…
In addition to both wanting kids “yesterday”…
Jef: Let’s say this works out with us and we decide to get married. Would you want to live together?
Emily: I thought about that a lot, y’know. I think it is hard to say “Yeah, let’s just move in together” because that’s what everybody does. I think it is one of those deals, like, whenever people live together before, it makes it so easy for people to get out.
Emily: Its like if you’re already married, you have to work on it. It won’t be fun sometimes, but you…
Jef: Are committed to do it.
Two reasons this scene is interesting..
#1: Sean (I think… have to recheck) has a similar conversation with her regarding Brad. She says he wasn’t ready for marriage and kids, although he may have thought he was initially.
#2: It parallels two discussions about marriage in Ben’s and Trista’s seasons…
Nicki told Ben that you learn a lot about somebody living with them before marriage, while they watched a wedding in Puerto Rico. Later, Kacie’s mother voiced her disapproval of it with Ben on the hometown date. Despite a mock marriage ceremony on the hometown, we never hear him discuss the subject with Courtney, although he does get “engaged” to her. Ben may not have been completely sure what he wanted at the end of this.
In Trista’s season, Ryan simply asked her “why not just get married?” Her final two Charlie had agreed to a long engagement. She brought it up with her step-sis, stepmom Carol and her divorced-but-happy parents Stan and Roseanne. Stan made up her mind for her essentially when he brought Trista to tears aout Ryan’s seeking his approval for her hand.
Key Emily lines of interest at the rose ceremony:
…hope y’all aren’t disappointed (over a shot of Arie)
…have any unanswered questions answered (over Jef as she explains the purpose of a pre-rose ceremony meeting)
…any questions I had WERE answered (over Chris… this confirms that he said a mouthful to Emily’s face the day before that viewers are not supposed to know about)
…and THAT makes every second away from Ricki completely worth it
Odd scenes of interest:

Re: The Bachelorette 8 - Emily Maynard - Edit Thread - Discussion
Oh Richie Rich... it didn't take me that long... Ha ha!
Connections, if any, to Bachelorette #1
Trista can't stop talking babies with Chris Harrison. She is shown working with a small boy in pediatrics.
Emily wants a mini-van full of them with Chris Harrison. Key scenes with Ricki.
On the other hand, Ryan Sutter '03 intro: "The best thing that could happen to me is I could fall in love with Trista and she in me and we could ride into the sunset happily ever after." No marriage or babytalk here.
Jef '12 intro: "I believe in the fairytale." No marriage or babytalk here.
Charlie, Trista's F2 dumpee, wants to "meet the right woman"
Arie wants to "find the right girl"
Word used a lot in Trista's season, especially by Charlie: hopeless romantic
Word used a lot in Emily's season, especially by Emily... and Kalon (?!): hopeless romantic
A bunch of guys in their intros for Trista's season say they want to be daddies.
At least three in Emily's are already and one went bye-bye because he missed the little brute, I mean, tyke.
Trista sent home the 41 year old with no kids the first night.
Emily sent home the 41 year old with six kids the first night.
Before Ryan's meeting with Trista in episode #1, discussing his poem, we get Josh saying he will give Trista five boys to get her girl. (Afterward, we get Brian the breast implant salesman.)
Jef's meeting with Emily in episode #1, discussing his skateboard, is before Doug is crowned a "good dad" thanks to his letter. (Before, we get Travis' egg.)
OK... that last editing trick was a vague comparison... perhaps.
Chris Harrison asks Trista in episode #1 "Maybe one of them your future husband?" as the camera pans on three guys with Ryan in the middle.
Emily's episode #1 promo has the voice-over "I want to meet my husband so bad" over a cluster of guys with Jef in the middle.
Trista sees multiple weddings with Ryan on the episode #2 group date.
Emily gets Jef to propose to Miss Piggy on the episode #2 group date.
Russ, Trista's F3, gets the first solo date. Charlie, her F2, gets the second. Ryan gets the last.
Arie gets the first solo date. Sean gets his in London, but before Jef... last of the final three.
Missy, Sarah and Shannon (from Alex's season) all grill Trista's boys in episode #3. They think Charlie is so hot. He's got The Look.
Emily's buds grill her boys in episode #3. They think Sean is hot... and make Sean do more than Charlie had to.
Ah... but Bob Guiney tells us in episode #2 that Trista and Ryan are so different... almost opposites. She is outgoing, while he is shy. Later Charlie feels if Ryan is her "type" than he isn't.
Likewise, Chris says in an edited-out-of-sequence PI that he sees nothing special between Emily and Jef in episode#2. (Actually, many of us think Chris is talking about somebody other than Jef, but it is funny how it was edited as if he was talking about Jef.)
Out of top 3... Ryan had his hometown before Russ. Charlie had his last.
Jef had his hometown shot before Arie. Sean had his last.
