Re: Acts of Kindness - Discussion
That's so cool about the concert, @pavalygurl, but sad to hear about your work friends. I recently read 102 Minutes: The Unforgettable Story of the Fight to Survive Inside the Twin Towers after it was recommended by someone. I don't think I would have been able to read it closer to when it happened but found it interesting. There were a lot of heroes that day and not just the responders. Unfortunately there were also a lot of mistakes made that I didn't remember hearing about. Anyway, I look forward to seeing a more uplifting message from that horrible time.

@pavalygurl very nice story about the concert. Everyone came together to support each other during a horrific time. We certainly need more of that.
This story got to me. What a kind man, despite his dire diagnose.

“I Can Still Help”
As I walked through the parking lot, all I could think about was the dire diagnosis I had handed my patient Jimmy: pancreatic cancer. Just then, I noticed an elderly gentleman handing tools to someone working under his stalled car. That someone was Jimmy. “Jimmy, what are you doing?” I yelled out. Jimmy dusted off his pants. “My cancer didn’t tell me not to help others, Doc,” he said, before waving at the old man to start the car. The engine roared to life. The old man thanked Jimmy and drove off. Then Jimmy got into his car and took off as well. Take-home message: Kindness has no limits and no restrictions. –Mohammed Basha, Gainesville, Florida.

@albean99 Thanks for the suggestion on the book. I've been following this story but a good, free book is hard to pass up! I always marvel at how many blankets people came forth with for the passengers, especially when I hear of a plea for blankets and coats for the homeless. We need to get with helping others!

In a bizarre coincidence someone I worked with at my last job was a survivor from the South tower. She worked at yet another company I had also. We were having lunch one day, comparing work stories and she told me this. After the North tower was hit, they were told via security public announcements to stay in place. But she and her group decided to exit anyway and survived. So many stories emerged of courage and "luck" and circumstance. One of my best friends was taking a client out for breakfast and not there. He used to call and tell me he was sitting at his desk looking down at the clouds and what an amazing view it was when clear. Unbelievable.

@Norcalgal what a story! I just want to hug that little guy. He has a good heart and learned at a very young age how important it is to show compassion and love.

@GuardianAngel beautiful! My oldest son was always paired with a lower performing student. I asked him if he minded and he said no. It gave him new challenges at school, which came pretty easy to him.

Re: Acts of Kindness - Discussion
We were discussing in Tyler's thread what a great gesture the family did in donating his mother's organs. I've always been one who advocates organ donating when I have the opportunity.
This is the first thing I see in my twitter timeline when I logged on. Get the tissues.

This man, John Reid lost his 16-yr old son in a car crash. He decided to donate his organs, including his heart.

Recently the recipient sent him the surprise gift of a teddy bear with a recording of his son's heartbeat.

@GuardianAngel I cannot imagine. Bless them all.
