One thing i noticed from the intvw is she basically said she just realized that JP dismissed a lot of girls's feeling on the show. Her's actually included, but too blindsided to notice it back then. Good for her, she seems happy and has moved on.

MORE: Juan Pablo Galavis Television Reality TV The Bachelor Romance Chris Harrison the Bachelor ABC Pop Culture Chris Harrison Entertainment News

While you can look at the popular ABC series, The Bachelor, as pop culture entertainment, it can also, surprisingly, provide some real life lessons. In this case, a dramatically unexpected finale that aired Monday night, gave women a liberating look at someone who had finally had enough, and had the courage to say so on national television, transforming her from a branded harlot to a burnished heroine in a matter of minutes

Clare had been positioned all season as the vixen and the villain, the over-sexed hussie who wouldn't play by the rules. She earned the disgust of the other girls and the disdain of viewers. But Claire persisted. While the "smart girls" (the assistant District Attorney and the international opera singer) resisted the Latin Lover's charms, deducing (amidst the allure and amore of the Fantasy Suite) that Juan Pablo had the abs of Adonis, but the intellect of an ant, while the more mundane finalists, the beautician, Clare, and the nurse, Nikki, hung in there.

While Nikki played the bland "good" girl, Clare snuck into Juan Pablo's suite for an added dose of "intimacy" because she was hoping "with an open heart" (among other things) that he was indeed, the man for her. Most women watching the show were ready to write her off, especially after their crucial final date, where he was anything but chivalrous.

But, in the final rose ceremony as we were poised to dismiss her, and apparently, so was Juan Pablo (he made lewd off camera comments), Clare too realized there was no "there there." She found her voice, and expressed what every objectified woman in America wished they had said at precisely that moment. With millions watching, and with no "woulda, coulda, shoulda," she just went for it: "After what you put me through, I would never want a man like you to be the father of my children." Clare set him in his place and in so doing established hers.

During a post finale live interview, when asked to explain why she allowed herself to play the doormat for so long ("Why did you hang in there?" asked host, Chris Harrison). Without any irony, she replied that she was committed to letting her full guard down for the first time and hoping that he was the man she wanted. She followed up by saying, "That day was pivotal for me - I had never been able to stand up for myself - so many women can relate to that - you give it chance after chance. It was so liberating to stand there and say, 'This is exactly how I feel, and it's not okay' - that was my closure - that was all I needed!"

The working girl wowed us with her courage and candor, she stood firm and now stands for women who stand up for themselves. Better late than never!

LOL...Clare declared herself captain of a sunken ship. What an achievement !

Once she lost what she's been running after all show long, she says that in fact she realized she doesn't want it anymore...laughable but not really commendable !!!

ITA, not commendable at all!!I hope she learns and realizes how beautiful she is, and should be pursued, chased by a man who appreciates her.JMO

I like Clare a lot. She made it to the final 2, told JP how she felt and stood up for herself when he let her go. My impression is what she was so disgusted by was feeling that he led her on on the LCD and that he could have been more honest. I think what she did at TFRC was very commendable....good for her, sticking up for herself and being honest with her feelings. I see her being a  winner here and she seems very happy. I hope she finds a great guy that gives her all the love she is looking for. Everybody deserves love right?!?

Not TeamClare, but I love her as a person. If I had an opportunity, I would tell her to take responsibility for her actions and not put all the blames on JuanP (who not blameless). Obviously, she is used to chasing guys, so unless she learns her worth and stop chasing, she is always going to be heartbroken, not respected by guys. Guy will see her as too easy, therefore not marriage material. JMO

BTW I am #TeamNikki and #TeamJP too. I like them all and hope everyone is happy. Seems like the ending worked out just fine for everyone. And I did hear Clare take some responsibility. She said she had rose colored glasses on and should should have left at the LCD after JP helicopter comment. Hindsight is always 20/20 and there were many things we saw that she did not see. I saw her on the show as using any opportunity she had to further her relationship with JP...many women admired her for that and wished that they had had the chances she had with JP. Obviously he liked her and I see more than just a physical attraction. Maybe his decision was harder than we think. I see her as having many things to offer a man (and I don't mean physical although it was quite clear they had that). She is beautiful inside and out and I think she will make someone very happy. I guess we just have to agree to disagree....

While I am glad she is happy and moved on, perhaps learned something about herself, I'm sorry, but I don't buy the whole standing up for myself schtick. If he had chosen her, she would have happily accepted his rose and non proposal and we wouldn't have heard any more about any of this...until the break up. Hopefully, having seen this, next time she truly can stand up for herself and not let a man treat her like cr*p.

Clare Crawley - Bachelor 18 Contestant - Spoilers - Discussion - Page 19 Empty Re: Clare Crawley - Bachelor 18 Contestant - Spoilers - Discussion

Post by Sable Wed Mar 19, 2014 10:24 am

I am sure in the real world if a man treated Clare the way the Juan Pablo treated her, she would walk away. If it was the real world, I think she might have walked away from Juan Pablo after the the helicopter comment. Like many women, she probably has taken a lot of crap from men over the years, but that helicopter comment was just over the top and went too far. In terms of the show, a lot of people around the internet have given Clare flack for not leaving immediately after Juan Pablo made that comment to her in the helicopter. Well, not only did Juan Pablo sweet talk her into staying, I am sure TPTB had a thing or two to say to her as well. I think it might have been on one of Jason and Molly's pod casts that I heard this, but they said something along the lines that the producers really build up the F2 to the extent where they think they are going to be the F1 and with the actual F1 they try to create a lot of doubt so they think they are not going to be picked. This way TPTB can insure a very emotional FRC. If true, then the F1 and F2 sure get a lot of mixed messages! Clare probably was led to believe by the producers that she was going to be F1, so she probably (wrongly) ignored what happened in the helicopter because she didn't want to lose the relationship, even though it was far from perfect. Nikki said something similar before the FRC. Something along the lines that her relationship with Juan Pablo was not perfect, but she didn't want to lose it.

I think Clare did learn a lot about herself and how to conduct herself in the future. I thought she came across very well in her interviews on ATFR and on GMA. I just hope that others from show learned the same thing about themselves as well. (Juan Pablo, I am talking about you!)

As a side note, I was reading an article that came across my news feed on facebook. The subject of the article was about how women who are more attractive tend to have lower self esteem. I thought that was interesting because I would think that more attractive women would be more confident. Maybe that is why Clare has allowed herself to be treated poorly by men in the past? Also maybe that is why Nikki is allowing herself to be treated so poorly by Juan Pablo, imo.

Clare Crawley - Bachelor 18 Contestant - Spoilers - Discussion - Page 19 Empty Re: Clare Crawley - Bachelor 18 Contestant - Spoilers - Discussion

Post by chloep Wed Mar 19, 2014 11:12 am

^^ Sable, I agree with you on basically everything.

As for the last paragraph..... I believe it come down to self-esteem. For women in particular, beauty and self-esteem are highly linked. Many women feel that much of their self-worth relies entirely on external judgments of their physical appearance. However. IMO, outer beauty has nothing to do with self worth and self-esteem. For example, there are women who are very effective and successful in their professional life but cannot seem to get it together in their personal life. Their self-esteem is often low because of negative remarks that come from people close to them, from people, whose opinion they value(parents, significant others, "friends" ..etc), and pressures of looking perfect from the media, etc., resulting into image issues.

My mother always told me that a woman has to make a decision. A decision not to believe the things(lies) that she has been told about herself by others. She has to believe that she is worthy of respect and admiration. She has to believe that she does not need somebody to complete her world. That she has to learn who she is on/(and by) her own before she can truly give even the tiniest part of herself to somebody.

At the end of the day being pretty does not mean a thing. Outer beauty is fleeting. It's whats going on on the inside that determines who you are.
No matter how you "look" it comes down to how you treat yourself. Treat yourself with great care and respect and let the world know that you should be treated with the respect you deserve.

Good points Chloep. You were very fortunate to have such a wise mom. I don't remember how old Clare was when her dad died, but I know that a loving father, or lack of, is a huge influence on how a girl values herself.

Clare's father died 9 years ago and she has said that she has not been inlove/brought a man home/said "I love you" since he died. This has a lot of effect on the way she may be/see relationships. It's that old (annoying) saying..."daddy issues". It's sad. A lot of women have been there though, unfortunately. I just hope she gets what she wants/deserves out of life.

And yes, more attractive women have self esteem issues. There has been a lot of research and studies on this and many examples. For instance: eating disorders such as Bulimia, Anorexia, Binge Eating as well as self harm, acting out sexually, depression, etc. It has been said that this is so because more attractive women are put on a pedestal (mostly by men) to be perfect and they get treated as if they are a piece of meat as well as not feeling good enough (usually in their own eyes). Whereas, less attractive women are already in the know that they aren't as attractive, therefore they do not stress about their appearance as much as the women who are viewed as "perect". A lot of psychology in it all.

Yeah, I also believe that growing up being one of so many sisters(and being the youngest) my have hurt her self-esteem a bit. People commented on her HTD how Clare didn't fit in with her family at all(looks-wise) and I believe feeling like being the odd one out wasn't entirely unfamiliar to Clare while growing up.

Yes, Chloep. I think it also ties into the fact that yes, she does not look like her mother and sisters..but she also got told a lot on SM that she did not look hispanic, which also could have brought her self esteem down considering her culture is a large part of her life. It seems as if she's the only child that ended up looking like her father (pics were shown in her package in the first episode). Cause ya'know darker genes are much more common as opposed to being blonde hair/ green eyed. Her self esteem may also be lower considering she's the only one who does not speak spanish. So we have: being the youngest, not looking like the family, not speaking the family language, having a father die when she was a daddy's girl, being scrutnizied on TV (possessive, needy, dramatic, dumb, annoying, push over, sl*t shamed, etc.), and what else?? I would have low self esteem as well if I were in her case. Goodness..
