Well, I'm glad that Garrett finally spoke up about all this, but only time will tell if he's actually willing to change. Like someone else above stated, actions speak louder than words. And the fact that a lot of the guys (Clay, Wills, John G., etc.) were willing to back him up helped his case a little bit. The apology seemed sincere enough, but had to question some of the content in it though. Like the whole 'mindless tap' thing for starters, and it did kinda sound like he was tooting his own horn a bit too much. If he's truly sorry and serious about educating himself, maybe the relationship will be worth salvaging. But if he's not willing to put in the time or effort, they'll be done within a year.

It was stated he was racist, sexist, homophobic etc and didn't like anyone but a straight white male. I flat out never agreed with the racist part. My come to Jesus moment was when Guardianangel brought up the throwing the kid over the wall meme. That IMO was cold as heck and flat out wrong.

IMO what I read seemed to say that the arguments against him weren't about freedom of speech/Garrett's opinion but about their inflammatory nature/delivery. I also thought it was about not approving, liking, or supporting memes that bullied/or were mean-spirited and ignorant against entire groups of people (ie the kid/wall meme or the one of the little boy with colored hair etc).

However, am I understanding that it's not ok for him to dislike seeing boys in skirts? IMO that sounds like his personal opinion, and I wouldn't want that level of control over anyone.

If he keeps quiet and doesn't disparage that kid, it wouldn't feel right to condemn him. For example, I don't like hearing people curse up a storm in public (think the movie Casino) or seeing people in inappropriate clothing (I live in Miami so like a lot of city dwellers my definition of inappropriate is extreme, one sees all kinds of things down here).

Wouldn't that be akin to a thought crime? I never read Orwell but as I said I don't like extremism and IMO a personal opinion is something we're all entitled to.  All JMO.

In my opinion, while certainly not impossible, it is very difficult to change deeply ensconced beliefs whether they be individual, familial and/or cultural.  When change occurs it is typically not a function of being caught but rather a product of a transformational experience that propels the individual to go inward and begin to explore/question his/her own value/belief system.  And, as many things in life, the transformation is a process rather than something that happens overnight.

I liked him as well.  The guys I like the most are sent home early.  Probably because they are too normal and boring for this show.

Could also be because the lead isn’t attracted to a specific person night 1 and doesn’t want to drag them through the process if they seem to be nice/normal. Possibly better to keep the few s/he is attracted to plus others who will make good tv or appear tougher skinned.
Also, there is a very quick turnaround from Bette to BIP so someone like Joe may have been viewed to not be her guy but a good fit for BIP. It’s part of the process.
Joe is definitely being hyped IMO. When does the cast start filming BIP?
