Yep, agreed, although at least Brooke will be offering something different.  At this stage TPTB may as well just be bold and cast a gay male Lead for 2022 IMO.  It's on the chopping block and nothing else they've tried has worked so why not?  

If Brooke's season rates well they might consider it.  Some contestants would probably hook up with each other, completely changing the dynamic of the show, but at least it would be interesting.  The traditional formula is tired and boring, IMO.

It is important for those on the production team to keep their jobs as is for anyone, but no mention about the importance of finding love.

Osher is right, those people do deserve jobs. But is he really that naive after over two decades in TV? Ratings are everything. Even on streaming platforms with no advertising, it's still about the number of eyeballs watching the thing. They have Australian content requirements, so those same people will simply find jobs on whatever they have to replace The Bachelor with.... whatever that might be. Another reality show?

It's definitely a make or break time for the franchise (in Aus) but it's interesting to see that it is still going so strong in other countries (US and NZ are the ones I know of). I haven't seen the other versions, but are there major differences in the format to what we get in Aus? And what are they?

(Also thanks to @Bobette and @Guardianangel for the welcome (and for presumably being the kind people who reformatted my extracts from the article) - apols for not doing that properly!)

And also a reminder (because I'm sure I read it here first) that Ch10 recently bought the format franchise rights to First Dates from Ch7 (another reality show that started out with good ratings that consistently went downhill until they cancelled it). So it seems they are definitely looking to experiment with what they offer in the reality/dating space.

You are so right. There are other local productions going on in Australia. These people also need to work on other shows when The Bach is not filming. They dont get paid while waiting for the next season to be filmed.

Osher is too big for his britches and has an inflated opinion of his importance to the show IMO.  He was absent for 90% of Elly & Becky's season and I really didn't notice any difference.

A well-placed insider had told Daily Mail Australia the series would be 'inevitably' cancelled if Brooke Blurton's upcoming season of The Bachelorette doesn't see a significant boost in ratings.

'It wouldn't have mattered who they chose [as the Bachelor]; those numbers were always going to be low,' an insider told Daily Mail Australia noting the steady decline in ratings over the years.

They added that having a bisexual Bachelorette - Brooke - with male and female contestants was a 'last-ditch attempt' at revitalising the franchise, but if this doesn't work, the series 'is going to lose its entire audience'.

The source also claimed Channel 10 executives were scouting for an 'international dating format' to replace the series next year.
