LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- J.P. Rosenbaum popped the question to Ashley
Hebert in the summer of 2011 on “The Bachelorette,” and earlier this
month they became the second couple from that show to walk down the
aisle.

And fans can watch for themselves when ABC airs “The Bachelorette: Ashley and J.P.’s Wedding,” this Sunday on ABC.

Neither Ashley, 28, nor J.P., 35, showed any signs of nerves leading up to their December 1 wedding.

“Marrying her just feels right,” J.P. told AccessHollywood.com’s Laura Saltman on their big day.

“I know weddings bring a lot of anxieties, but I actually feel so at
peace with everything,” Ashley told Laura. “And I’m excited to see
everybody, to see J.P., to declare our love in front of everyone.”

The couple’s wedding prep was all captured, including practicing their first kiss as husband and wife.

But the day before the wedding, Ashley joined the most special women in her life for a bridal brunch.

“Each and every one of you has touched me in a certain way, and touched
J.P. in a certain way, and I’m so happy,” Ashley said at the bridal
event.

But moving forward, will Ashley change her name?

“She’s going to change her name [to] Dr. Rosenbaum,” J.P. laughed.

“Actually, I’m going to change the name right away. Yeah… like in a couple hours,” she laughed.

The couple asked “Bachelor” franchise host Chris Harrison to officiate their “I do’s” for the ABC special.

And there were plenty of former contestants from the franchise over the
years in attendance, like the now-married Molly and Jason Mesnick.

“Looking back are you happy you did it on television?” Laura asked the pair, about their own wedding, which was also televised.

“Oh, 100-percent,” Molly said. “We have no regrets whatsoever, it was an amazing experience for us and, look at us now.”

Now pregnant, Molly is due this spring.

Also on hand at Ashley and J.P.’s nuptials – the first “Bachelorette” success story – Trista and Ryan Sutter.

“It was almost exactly nine years ago that you guys did this little
shindig. Do you remember it like it was yesterday?” Laura asked.

“Like it was yesterday. No, I’m old and I have a mommy brain and I don’t remember it, no I’m just kidding,” Trista laughed.

“It does seem like it was yesterday, though, time has gone by pretty fast,” Ryan said.

“The Bachelorette” wedding airs this Sunday, December 16 at 9/8c on ABC.

They Do: Ashley Hebert's 'Bachelorette' Special And The Appeal Of Reality TV Weddings

By Lindsey DiMattina , Hollywood.com Staff | Friday, December 14, 2012

Luke and Laura. David and Donna. Jim and Pam. If TV soap operas and dramas have proven anything over the past few decades, it's that weddings make for appointment television. And, in recent years, reality TV has realized the power of nuptials, offering fans countless wedding-related series. Now, with wedding television programming at a fever pitch on networks like WE tv, TLC, and even E! (as much as we'd like to forget about Kim Kardashian's wedding special), fans are about to be subjected to yet another round of glossy scenes when The Bachelorette star Ashley Hebert and J.P. Rosenbaum’s nuptials air as a special this Sunday on ABC. And as much as many reality TV detractors would like to roll their eyes, there's no denying the guilty pleasure has become a legitimate franchise.

But what's behind the televised wedding obsession? If you ask David Tutera, celebrity wedding planner and star of WE tv's My Fair Wedding, specials like Hebert and Rosenbaum's give fans the opportunity to live vicariously through stars' own dream weddings. “It’s truly about seeing the things that you just don’t get to see in every day lives,” Tutera tells Hollywood.com.

Then, factor in the romance that appeals to our most intimate senses. “Everyone just likes a good love story,” Trista Sutter — who met her husband while starring on the first season on The Bachelorette and who then went on to have her own TV wedding special — says. “People love to fall in love. People love to watch it. That’s why it’s a huge ratings boost...The bottom line is that people love love stories."

And that's precisely why Hebert and Rosenbaum opted to televise their own wedding — for the fans. "I know for us, we went back and forth — we weren’t sure we wanted to do it," Hebert tells Hollywood.com. "One of the main reasons why we wanted to is because we had so much great support from people that have watched the show [The Bachelorette], that we kind of felt like it would all come full circle. And it kind of allowed people that spent so much of their emotion going through the relationship with me and with J.P. to really kind of celebrate and enjoy a happy ending.”

Ratings

If you ever needed concrete proof that TV weddings draw in the masses, look no further than the ratings. Sutter’s three-hour wedding special Trista & Ryan’s Wedding attracted 17.1 million viewers to ABC in 2003, according to the Hollywood Reporter. And the franchise did it again in March 2010 when Bachelor star Jason Mesnick's two-hour Bachelor special, The Bachelor: Jason and Molly’s Wedding, pulled in an impressive 9.3 million viewers in March 2010.

When reality star Kim Kardashian and her basketball player beau Kris Humphries tied the knot in 2011, their two-part, four-hour marathon bonanza brought in 4.4 million watchers on the first night alone. (The second part of Kim's Fairytale Wedding: A Kardashian Event averaged 4 million.) While this paled in comparison to the ratings the Bachelor weddings scored, it's clear fans still love a good celebrity wedding. Or any TV wedding, for that matter. In 2008, the Season 5 premiere of WE tv’s Bridezillas earned 1 million viewers, according TVWeek.com. By Season 9, those numbers quadrupled, with 4.4 million viewers watching the series, according to Lauren Gellert, SVP, Production & Development at WE tv.

Additionally, My Fair Wedding — hosted by Tutera (who has become something of a celebrity in his own right) — has attracted fans in the niche market. The series has grown from premiering to 710,000 viewers in Season 3 to 2.2 million viewers in Season 5, according to Gellert. Indeed, “Our wedding programming has done really well in the ratings,” she says.

‘Bachelor’ endures, even if couples don’t

By Emily Yahr

The Washington Post

As for Sunday’s wedding of Season 7 “Bachelorette” Ashley Hebert and J.P. Rosenbaum, it will be the first non-scandalous “Bachelor” nuptials since the Season 1 “Bachelorette,” Trista Rehn, married winner Ryan Sutter in 2003 in a three-part miniseries.

The story: Hebert was the second runner-up on “The Bachelor” Season 15, then got her own “Bachelorette” season, choosing Rosenbaum in the summer of 2011. Cameras captured the wedding in Pasadena, Calif., at the beginning of December, a day that Fleiss calls “magical.”

“Even the most cynical viewer will realize this is not a made-for-television romance,” Fleiss said.

He then ventured a guess about the future of his franchise’s latest couple: “I bet they’re married forever.”

Ashley Hebert and J.P. Rosenbaum's Wedding: A View From the Third Row

Ashley and JP Rosenbaum - Discussion - Fan Forum - Page 10 Ashley-hebert-600

Monica Rizzo, a senior writer for PEOPLE who has been covering TV for 14 years, attended Ashley Hebert and J.P. Rosenbaum's wedding this month. Here, she shares some of what you won't see this Sunday when The Bachelorette: Ashley and J.P.'s Wedding airs on ABC.

It was four years ago that I first started covering The Bachelor and The Bachelorette for PEOPLE. If someone had told me then that one day I would be quiver-lipped and sniffling as I watched two reality stars get married while the cameras rolled for a TV special, I would have rolled my eyes.

No, not me. Never.

But alas, that was me on Dec. 1, in the third row, beaming and tearing up as I watched Ashley Hebert and J.P. Rosenbaum, whom she chose at the end of her season on The Bachelorette, exchange vows in front of 200 guests at the Langham Huntington Hotel in Pasadena, Calif.

The ceremony, presided over by the ABC franchise's host, Chris Harrison, was sweet, heartfelt, funny, poignant, and most of all, unforgettable, because in front of me were two people who truly love each other. I know that because I felt their connection when we met in Malibu in July 2011 to talk for the first time about their engagement and their future plans.

I'm a sappy romantic, so I root for every couple to go the distance.

J.P.'s eyes twinkled when he talked about Ashley. He was impressed with her independence and bowled over by her enthusiastic, genuine, fun-loving personality. Ashley, as she had always done with me, spoke from her heart about J.P.'s kindness and consideration. I remember telling my editor at the time, "There's something about these two. They are so normal. Such a good fit."

We had stayed in touch, so I didn't feel out of place at their wedding. Quite the contrary. I've been to a lot of weddings in my life, and this was one of the best, hands down.

Both J.P. and Ashley are warm, friendly and instantly likable. And so are their families and friends, and their extended Bachelor family. Before dinner, champagne flowed, glasses clinked and people hugged. The softly lit ballroom was infused with an exuberance that lasted the entire night.

As the deejay started spinning tunes at the reception, Ali Fedotowsky, Michael Stagliano and Michelle Money were among the familiar faces jamming the dance floor. At first I politely watched. I'm working, I thought. But as the night wore on, I couldn't resist joining the party. "Baby Got Back" pumped through the speakers, and I just had to hit the floor. Trista Sutter and Jillian Harris clapped while Ali cheered me on as I danced like, well, a soccer mom at a wedding.

The dancing went on until nearly midnight, and I couldn't stop. None of us could. It was too much fun. Chris Harrison and producer Elan Gale tied their neckties together for an impromptu limbo competition, (I lasted one round. Producer Cassie Lambert was declared the winner). Later, former Bachelorette contestant Craig Robinson swept me off my feet and dipped me. My shoes flew off, and all I could see as I went upside down were Jason and Molly Mesnick smiling and laughing. To say the least, it was a blast.

As things wound down, I gave J.P.'s mom a hug goodnight and remarked on the dozens of Mark's Garden flower arrangements on the tables. "What do you think they're going to do with all of these?" I asked. "Take them!" she insisted. "They should be enjoyed." Oh my God, I thought. That's just what my mom said to the guests at my wedding.

The next morning, Ashley, J.P. and I had bloody Marys and mimosas at the bar overlooking the gardens where the wedding took place. We toasted their new beginning as husband and wife. I couldn't help but gush to them what a wonderful time I had sharing in their special day.

"That makes me so happy!" Ashley squealed, looking over at J.P., who smiled, which gave his eyes that signature twinkle. I meant it. I'm a believer in love, and I can honestly say it was a highlight of my year to be a part of something so rare, so special, so real. I can't wait to watch it again on TV.

Here's wishing Ashley and J.P. all the best that life has to offer. They deserve it.

The Bachelorette: Ashley and J.P.'s Wedding airs Sunday at 9 p.m. ET on ABC.

I thought with all of the tweeting going during the airing of the wedding, it would fare well ratings wise but it looks like it didn't do well against football and Survivor. From TVbytheNumbers:

TV Ratings Sunday: Survivor Finale Up From Last Year and Bachelorette special flops

The Bachelorette: Ashley and JP's Wedding 0.9 (18-49) 2 share 3.44 Million total viewers)

I think that may have been due to how long it was between the actual wedding and the airing. Pretty much everyone has read about the wedding and seen the pictures. I know that I decided to watch Survivor live since for the first time in years I was really unsure of the final and liked all the finalists. I PVRed the wedding so that I could watch it, rewind and savour it slowly. I'm sure a lot of people did that. giggling

Yeah, going up against 2 popular teams playing Sunday Night Football and the Survivor finale after what's actually been a really strong season, the wedding was bound not to get good ratings. There was also the lack of viable leadin (Wipeout?? Really? The wedding ratings actually grew from that, no surprise). Mostly a reflection of franchise age and scheduling.

it was a poor choice to put it up against the Survivor Finale and football.

I actually think ABC knew exactly what it was doing and expected low ratings. They threw the wedding up against 2 really big draws as a kind of counterprogramming but realistically, they were basically conceding the night to NBC and CBS. These are no longer the glory days of the Bach franchise: it's been hit with declining ratings even when they've cast a popular lead like Emily. Even the pop culture relevance of the show (as in tabloid presence) has declined. And so, Bach/ette franchise programming is no longer as much of a network priority as it used to be, which is why they agreed to air Ashley & JP's wedding but didn't exactly give it much of a chance to draw big.

I don't believe that at all - I would never assume that ABC would give up the potential for higher ratings, had it been on up against some repeat programming that will be coming this week they could've done much better in the night's standings.

The franchise isn't doing well and not to put this wedding (which will likely be the last wedding for a very long time) on where it can capitalize on the audience they do have is just poor business.

ETA: that wedding was promo'ed to the hilt for the week prior - they weren't doing that to not viewership. They prolly just thought they would do better.
