Less competent, less trustworthy, less educated. I find that a joke since Lauren graduated from college in 3 years . That's sounds like an uneducated person. NOT!! As for less competent and less trustworthy, I look at her relationship with her family and how close they are very close and smart and all educated, tells me a lot about who she is. Obviously Ben likes it because he has professed his love publicly. This is what's so great about America is were all aloud to have our own opinion. I'm certainly not perfect and I almost can guarantee my voice annoys people up north because of my southern accent. I guess I have more to be concerned with than the sound of some ones voice. Yikes

Well said! I am getting tired of this discussion. Can't seem to avoid it, even if I wanted to.

^ In my opinion, I don't think anyone has said Lauren is those things you listed. I'm sure she's a smart, trust worthy girl, however, I don't think it's unfair to think that someone sounds silly and perhaps even dumb when they talk in a baby voice, drag out words, have a vocal fry, etc. That applies to men and women.

There's plenty of serious issues going on in the world that we should be worried about, but we're allowed to have discussions here, whether it's a funny, not serious discussion such as this one or a more serious discussion. JMO

No one is saying that Lauren has these issues.  It's simply a description of vocal fry which is a forced way of talking.  Period.

I also think vocal fry makes people sound vapid, even when they're not, which is why I wish it would die out. I do get that young women these days probably don't even realise that they're doing it if they're surrounded by friends who sound the same. My dialect changed a lot as well when I moved away from home after high school and it really wasn't intentional, it just happened subconsciously.

There was some interview at the beginning of B&L and Lauren said the hardest part about watching herself on TV was hearing her voice. That's common. I cringe when I hear my voice in video and not in my head. laugh out loud So hey, at least she's self aware and agrees with y'all. laugh out loud

IMO, it's pretty simple, if you don't like the discussion going on, you have a couple options - don't read it, bring some new discussion topics to the thread or do not visit the thread.  No one is forcing you to read or participate.

This is a general discussion thread so all types of discussion are allowed as long as they pertain to the topic which is Ben, Lauren and their show.

Whenever my mom talks on the phone, or gets into a heated discussion, you would think she was from Chalmette the way she sounds. Never lived there a day in her life. It doesnt matter though, when she really gets going, she starts to talk different. And she will say "you know what im saying" about a thousand times a conversation. It drives me crazy. She doesnt even realizes she does it though, its just a habit.  **edit**. Maybe it is a habit that she doesnt realize. If that is what she has grown up around, then to her that could be perceived as normal.

Kasey Kahl? Cause if so, I agree!

There's a big difference about someone having an accent or someone putting on a fake voice such as vocal fry.  It's been said that we all have accents.  I live on Long Island and I've been told that I have a Long Island accent.  I never knew there was such a thing until it was pointed out to me.  Here is a description of vocal fry:

There’s a speech trend that’s becoming increasingly prevalent among young women today, and it’s called vocal fry.

Best described as a female’s voice descending into a lower register as they complete a sentence, it’s becoming more and more common among young women as vocal fry users like Kim Kardashian and Britney Spears saturate the media. Unfortunately, according to communication expert Diane DiResta, adolescent girls are subconsciously adopting this speech pattern, and it’s limiting their employment opportunities.

“There was a study by Florida Atlantic University and they determined that women who had vocal fry were perceived as less competent, less educated and less trustworthy and less hirable."

I think Lauren is fake, and she thinks this is trendy.
Well, didn't surprise me one bit because she never shows any depth.
All my opinions of course.

Again, this is a general discussion thread, not a fan thread, so all discussion is welcome.  We don't have to agree, we just have to respect our fellow posters and their opinions.  We do not call them out or question why they believe something, everyone is allowed their own thoughts and opinions without having to justify them.  If you can not handle or do not like reading negative, stick to the fan thread.

Posts have been deleted.  This is my second warning already this morning.  Threads will be locked if you can't play nice. And please remember to add IMO or JMO to posts. We do not post opinions as facts no do we want them to be mistaken for them and discussions spiral into huge messes that have to be cleaned up.

Ben, Lauren and HEA is the topic, carry on.

We are locking this thread because we can't keep up with the message reports and the pm's.

We'll re open it when we feel it's acceptable.
