The Bachelor episode 14 recap: from a dudes point of view....

I'm a reluctant viewer of the Bachelor - just as I was with the last season of Masterchef... I'm slowly being dragged in to these shows, even though I know the tricks that are used to hook people - the music for instance... It pulses through the show like it responds to the heart rate of Nina when she thinks of Intruders - it's like she was a contestant on Big Brother... Ok, I've blown my cover... I did only watch the first couple of rose ceremonies before getting hooked.

So last night I was fully invested. I'm a guy, I'm 42, and I know how scary that first home visit is. I'm happy I only had to meet one Dad when I was at the home visit episode of life, so I was really on Sam's side last night... This was going to be tough.

To get things rolling, Sam decides he needs less hair. Thankfully we didn't have to watch the full body wax and tanning salon visits as well.

Then the week of couches and being taken outside for an awkward chat began

#1 Heather.

Heather met Sam on a mountain. My tears began in time with the chocolate being poured. I sort of broke a little bit and wanted to protect Heather from this man... Or did I want him to be more than he seems to be? I'm not sure about him to be honest...

Then we met Warwick. Like a really tall Yoda. Sam was way out of his depth with this fella. The fence thing - pure Alpha male stuff - and Sam lost that little encounter.

Warwick did lay his jedi wisdom on a little thick, but it was good advice, and he is obviously a guy worth modelling a future partner on...

Yep, I cried again a little...

Sam and Heather kiss as he leaves, and I think she is the one....

#2 Lana

I though the whole intruder concept was hilarious - it made the original girls believe they were on a team... It's a lot like the Ultimate Fighter, a reality show about cage fighting, and the guys in the house get all friendly, but at the end of the episode two have to fight in a cage full contact and the loser gets evicted... It's not a team sport!

But Lana is boring. And she seems to have been picked by the producers because she looks like Heather, and they knew that would cause Sam to lose his poop a little...

Anyway, it's a boring date, with a boring family and Yeh, she will probably be the 'winner' in this meat market...

Oh, and mum, I've already told Sam I'm moving to Melbourne with him...

Sam and Lana kiss as he leaves, but I reckon it looks awkward.

#3 Sarah

Sarah meets Sam and they talk about deal breakers that he will blindly look past. Kids, nah I didn't really want kids...

Then we had the home visit. Which I think was a homage to the great movie Inception, or maybe 12 monkeys, as three versions of Sarah from different time streams converged at one dinner table. Magic.

Who would have thought the public disclosure of time travel would be so boring...

Sam and Sarah kiss as he leaves, and I think she is going home tonight....

#4 Snezana

OK. Can you believe they didn't let her meet Eve until after she walked down the beach with Sam looking like a pair of oranges? (my skin is the colour of the sand, I wryly observed to my patient wife)

Then there's the awkward first meeting with the amount of eye contact you give an angry wolf... And the questions... At least answer the 1D question with some integrity...

The dinner and Sam grill was fabulous, but it should have given Sam the message not to f*$k with a European family, especially one with a fresh-faced strong man son. Also small man syndrome was a factor in that power play...

He should have sent Snezana home... But who's going to look best with him in the New Idea spread?

They kiss and he goes...

Back at the harbourside gaol it all begins with Sam swiping through pictures of the girls on a tablet. I'm reminded of a New Idea article mentioned in the previous ad break that will tell me where to get the lovely cocktail dresses the ladies are wearing, which seemed to use the same pictures... Maybe Sam was actually browsing their online magazine to quell the nerves?

Osher comes in looking teary and trembles his way through explaining the three rose dilemma before us...

Sam enters.

He makes a speech about families, then hands out a rose each to Sarah and Snezana.

I'm a little gobsmacked as it dawns on me that Heather can't win this loaded battle. It's Heather versus Scarlett Johansson in Lucy.

And he is that guy.
You know.
The one that thinks friends can't be lovers.

THE Bachelor Sam Wood bravely appeared at the track for today’s Sofitel Girls Day Out after copping a big backlash over Heather Maltman’s departure.

Wood, surrounded by friends including St Kilda players Sam Fisher and Sam Gilbert, was a guest at the Flemington young members’ cocktail event.

With his final decision to be revealed this week, Wood said he couldn’t wait to step out with his love.

"I’m opening a new gym here in Melbourne and trying to juggle everything and keep things as normal as possible,’’ Wood said.

“You miss it because you’re in the bubble and you just want to do normal things.

“I just want to be with the girl that I’ve chosen in public, introduce her to my friends and family and enjoy each others’ company without the secrecy and the scrutiny.

“I know there’ll be a lot of hype but (to be) as normal as possible would be nice.”

Wood, who will choose between Lana Jeavons-Fellows, Sarah Mackay and Snezana Markoski, endorsed Maltman to be the next Bachelorette.

“I reckon she’d be great. I would love to see her fall in love and be happy,’’ he said.
