But wouldn't his company have done that when they knew that he was on the Show??? I'm sure that his company had to know that he was going to be on the Show because he had to get permission to leave his job. So why would they wait until now to start following him? I hate raining on the parade, but.....just asking.

Short answer: Timing is everything. You want to strike when you have the biggest audience, which is now - not during production.

Long rambling theory: If (and big IF) Drew (or his friends/family/employer/agent) did some type of campaign to grow his Twitter following, it would make more sense to time the campaign when his target audience/fan base could actually be rewarded by getting to tune into Drew on the Bachelorette each week - not during production.

Fleiss chose to feature Drew very prominently in previews shown during Bach blooper special, start of ep 1 and end of ep 1. Fleiss also let us hear Drew confess to Des that he had fallen for her, which suggests to me that Drew's not F1. Drew also received a very favorable intro reel during ep 1. Marketers would want to capitalize on that exposure/budding interest by timing a "#GoDrew" Twitter following campaign to coincide with Drew getting more quality screen time with Des.

My bet is that Drew and Brooks are Fleiss' leading candidates for Bachelor. TPTB obviously think that both have the greatest fan-favorite potential or they would not have given both of them so much time in previews shown in positive and easily recognizable light (vs. James big cryer, Ben big schemer, Zak big shirtless wonder, Chris big mystery/hidden -- and it took some screen cap analysis to figure it was him).

Drew's camp MIGHT be helping to build the case for Drew stepping into a lead Bachelor role by proactively growing his fanbase on Twitter. Shoot, ABC's PR department might have had a hand in helping him!! Also, didn't Mimi mention that Brooks' company is posting YouTube videos of him? Wonder when that started?

So it appears the race for the next Bachelor lead is going to run concurrently with the race for Des' heart.

... Again, this is all speculation ...it could be a glitch in Twitter too!! ... or can you "buy" Twitter followers? ...

Apparently it is possible to buy twitter followers for yourself and for others.

It is mega strange to me, but I'm just going to wait and see.

I have noticed that a couple of the former Bachelorettes have mentioned Drew either on Twitter or in Ali's case on her blog. He seems to be popular even without a lot of time on the show. IA that it still seems like a lot of followers so fast though.

Oh geez! Someone (cough ... ABC PR/marketing dept ... cough) are putting the bug in former Bachelorettes' ears to start the fan base growing for Drew.

NOOBS made a great point that I am bringing over from the Ready for Love thread: "To put it into perspective... Fleiss wants someone with an established fanbase. When they cast Sean he had over 200,000 twitter followers and Des has about 130,000... Sara has just shy of 2,400. Basically, there aren't enough people that know about her since RFL was cancelled JMO."

So that could be the reason behind the growth of Drew's twitter following.

Or ... maybe ... just maybe ... Drew is F1. I remember getting really suspicious when Bach nation were rooting for Catherine after ep 1 and 2 (both Arie and Wolfie gave her shout outs) when she had next to no screentime.

Des didn't get to 130,000 before The Bachelorette started. She had around 20,000 something before she was announced as the Bachelorette, 75,000 or so after announced and didn't get to over 100,000 until after the first episode.

Guys, we have been discussing this in Drew Spoilers thread. I also work in digital media and I can tell you with 100% certainty that those followers have been bought. If you look they are mostly male, fake names, or non-English. There are TONs of places online to buy Twitter followers. Some for as little as $5, like fivver.com. Programmers create Twitter bots that mirror real profiles and create copycat profiles with fake names. They then turn around and sell them to people/marketers to "pad" their followers. I can tell you that Twitter has been trying very hard to crackdown on these and other twitter bots that spam people with unsolicited ads.

No clue if Drew (or someone close to him ) or TPTB bought them but they have been bought. I will say that it seems strange that TPTB would buy them to set him up as the next lead, assuming that he is not F1, because Drew has barely gotten 2 minutes of screen time and they don't know how the audience would react to him.

It's kind of hilarious that you can buy followers. I'm not sure why Drew would want to do that but I'm thinking maybe someone else did because he's not even tweeting and you'd think he would if he were interested in jacking up his followers. I noticed that Robert has 8000 followers. I wonder how many he had before the show?

Robert? Talk about a guy that probably loves all the attention of being cut!

Drew also works in digital marketing and would know the potential blow back of buying followers which so suddenly show up when he's not even tweeting.
